what do you mean by operating system? I have windows xp if that helps ..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

I also use firefox though I have the option of windows explorer; also I didn't get any link in your last reply.

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

I have tried on both firefox and windows explorer and it won't download..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

no, by somebody who works for HP.
so you say i should clean out temp files.. how do I do that?

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

ok, I worked out how to do the first way :-))
and I'll try the second one .. and let you know if it makes a difference..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

hmm.. after all that .. it's still coming up with error 20
    :(

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

    this might help..
it says the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process; how do I find out what? where?

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

temp files should have been cleared by the clean-up process ... correct me if I'm wrong ..

you want to know all the processes listed? There are about 40 listed under processes!

the applications are firefox and skype [under applications]..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

ok, I will do this; there were some temp files that could only be wiped out if the comp was restarted; I must admit, I skipped this stage.
There was originally other cam software installed but it was one of the first things I completely deleted when these problems started.

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

    so I should rerun Ccleaner?

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

do you mean the part labeled 'registry'? I run it through and it says its fine - no issues were found.

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

I don't know who you are but you've sure got loads of patience and you're being a great help!
I have done i think what you have told me and, lo and behold, it loads fully :-)) .. no 20% error .. BUT it is not appearing in the scanners and cameras in control panel..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

also, just btw, after doing everything, restarting etc, firefox has started with an xtra toolbar from yahoo;as far as i know i didnt invite them! How do i get rid of it and any idea why it appeared? [you dont have to answer this if you feel this is another query but it has appeared after all the above :)]

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

btw, it does say [near the clock] a new hardware has been installed and ready for use..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

I cant try the cam if its not installed on the scanners and cameras section; I have no link to start it with; when it originally loaded or installed, it registered there and that was how i accessed it..

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

wooopee, it's on! now I have to test it :-))

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

    hehe, yu're a wizard..
    it's up and running..
    thank you very much ..
btw, the yahoo hasn't uninstalled even though i did restart etc and its now not on the add or remove programs any more .. ??!

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

    where can I rate you?
was there anything else you were going to say?

  • ZERT Dec 13, 2007

    thank you very much ..
btw, the yahoo hasn't uninstalled even though i did restart etc and its now not on the add or remove programs any more .. ??!
    where can I rate you?

If you tell me the brand and model of your webcam, I can find a driver on-line for you. Also tell me for what operating system you have.

I do believe that this link for drivers should work fine. Scroll down to the DC-5110 series and download the driver. I tried the link myself and could not get it to work on my computer but it may be my Firefox settings. I have scoured the web and could not find a better place to get this driver. Good Luck

Sorry about that, here it is

The site may be under repair right now. I found other sites with a driver but are in Russian or Japanese so I could not make out what to press to download. You can try clearing out all temp files on your system. Sometimes this clears the old info which may have been corrupted. Ccleaner is a free software utility that cleans out any file or files you want and also fixes the registry, may be something to try too if you want to retry the CD again. The driver download site may be up and running properly soon too I hope. Sorry for the problems you are having here. 9/10 this is a easy fix but this time, it has me stumped. Did you by chance get this cam from Ebay?

click on the Start button and choose Programs
(All Programs in Windows XP). Then choose Accessories, System Tools, and Disk Cleanup. (A shortcut is
to click on Start, choose Run, and type in cleanmgr.)
The other way is with Ccleaner because it digs a little deeper and has no spyware or adware and its free.

Too bad. Does the driver CD support XP? This is an unusual error for XP. At this point I would wait until later on and only hope that the Chicony site will correct itself. This seems to be a very hard to find driver unlike most others. One last thing to try with the CD is: Right click on the CD in My Computer and select Compatibility and choose Windows 98 as a last ditch effort. I will continue my search for this driver for you in the mean time. I would also welcome any other expert's advice at this point.

Well in that case, try restarting the comp, clear temp files and try again. If that does not work, you have to check all running processes by Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Post them, one of them is interferring. Get back to me, I think I know what it is.

After restarting, the process running to prevent the install should have stopped. The clearing of all temp files also makes sure that there is no interference with the new installation. Do you have any other cam software installed on your system? If so, it must be uninstalled first.

Also in case Ccleaner would help with clearing the bad registry files left behind from the last driver. I understand that you may have un installed the last software but some registry items often stay behind and should be cleaned too.

Ccleaner has a registry repair option if you look. This is important to clear up any old files. Hope this works for you.

Under Start---->Run, type in "msconfig" Once it pops up, check under Startup. Make sure the name or extension of your old cam is not on this list. You can also uncheck any other startup items that are not needed for Windows startup. Do a restart. I really hope that this helps you for your sake, I know you must be frustrated by now.

Well the cam might be installed now but looks like the driver came with a Yahoo toolbar too. Go to Start---->Control Panel----->Add Remove Programs and look for Yahoo and click it and uninstall it. If you just want to hide it, right click on the Yahoo toolbar and you should see an option to remove it. Have you tried the cam yet?

    Lyle Siemens Dec 13, 2007

I think Firefox may have tried to interfere with installation so that the toolbar doesnt change Firefox settings, hence an error. Too bad the cam has a hard to find driver on the net. You should try it with MSN too be sure if it works.

You may have to run Ccleaner's registry cleaner in safe mode. Restart and tap F8 and run the cleaner
