I have an HTC 8X phone and it has randomly decided to turn off and is now unresponsive to the power button and chargers. It was perfectly fine a second ago with no problems at all. And unfortunately this...

  • First try a 'soft' reset (no data loss)
  1. Just hold the power button down for 30 seconds.
  • If there's no joy there then try a 'hard' reset (may cause data loss though most of your data should be backed up through SkyDrive)
  1. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
  2. Release the VOLUME DOWN button when you see an icon on the screen.
  3. Press the following hardware buttons in sequence: VOLUME UP > VOLUME DOWN > POWER > VOLUME DOWN.
  • If nothing happens that time, try holding down VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons all at once for thirty seconds or until the phone vibrates.
  • If non of these work try them in the same order but after the phone has been charging for one hour.
  • If there's still nothing after this, comment here and I'll post steps for recovery attempts through your PC or Mac.

Good Luck,

Lenovo laptop shut down and will not turn on. Tried removing all power and holding down power button but didn't work. When I press power button the te button lights up for a few seconds then goes out. ...

disconnect the adapter +battery HOLD THE POWER button by 30 seconds aprox, this trick is by eliminate all ESD.
Try again connecting the adpater +battery, if work is o.k
If the problem persist, connect only the adapt and see if the computer work, if does , connect the battery, if work is o.k .if doesnot.
The battery is faulty, RUN the software diagnostic with the adapter and see what going on inside of computer, the power supply inside can be faulty or the battery.

As a last trick, open the battery take out the small battery for CMOS, by 20 seconds. And turn on the computer can be TURN on.

God bless you

Press and hold the power button for fifteen seconds or so. Does it turn off then? If so, press and hold the power button for a second or two. Does it start to reboot then? Does it work properly now?

The laptop was turned off improperly and the power light is on but there is nothing oon the screen

Try pressing and holding the power button down until the power light goes off.
Once it is off, then try to turn-on the laptop as usual.
If this does not work, remove the power cord and the battery from the laptop, and then press and hold the power button down for 30 seconds.
After the 30 seconds, release the button, install the battery and re-connect the power cord. Start the laptop as usual by pressing the power button briefly.

Common problem...yet no working solution...

I think there's a capacitor that holds a charge for the blue-ring-of-death. The fix is to hold the menu button down for about 30 seconds (blue ring disappears) and continue holding for about 15 more seconds (or until re-boot). The additional time is required to discharge the capacitor.
If that fails, there is a safe-mode: place the device in hold, and press the mic and menu buttons at the same time. This usually doesn't apply to the blue-ring problem, but it may help.
