Question about iRiver H10 MP3 Player

Hard drive When I turn on my iriver h10 20g it initializes but when the little clock showing that it is initializes stops and then it is suspended until you reset the whole thing. Several times I have reset but can not get it to initialize so I can start all over again downloading music. Do you think that the hard drive has crashed? You can see it trying to initialize but then it never fully initializes and then is just stuck.

    It tries to initialize, but the handles of the clock do not turn. I read on the screen "System initializing please wait" and it stops there.

    I just bought a new battery but when I bypass it with the charger, it still does the same thing.

    Any help?

    exactly the same problem.. whats the 'select' button??? how do i get it to emergency connect?

I have the 6GB one if you connect to the computer and hold the select button it should come up as emergency connect, remove and install the new firmware and use wma files instead of mp3s then it should work fine.

I would be willing to bet your hd has crashed, you could try to fix it check ebay for one that works

Iriver says ''Check HDD Connection'' at initial boot up--


if you know some one with the same iriver...you can copy thier software (not music) onto you pc / laptop....disconnect & plug your iriver up...now you can format your iriver..copy the software onto it...its like starting fresh now.......but if no one is around w/ an iriver..you will have just purchase another one ...(if purchase hard drive you will still need the software)...

You can choose manual or automatic upgrade function.

Select [Option - Firmware Upgrade] from the menu in iriver plus.
Do not disconnect H10 during firmware upgrade.
Internet must be connected for the "Firmware Update" function.
Change to "Player must be connected to the PC for Firmware Upgrade function.
Note
Please initialize H10 player in the following cases.
All music, pictures, text, and data will be erased from the player during this initialization.
- if there appears to be corruption on the internal hard drive.
- if an error message displays and the player doesn't boot properly.
1 Connect the player and PC using the cable supplied with the player.

Database refresh on Iriver H10


I have done this. my iriver is almost full i have the 20gb, when the you do the database refresh, it just takes a really long time. mine takes about 2 hours to finish, once you see the clock on database refresh you cant do anything but wait till its finished.

Sounds like you either have a bad hard drive or some of the song files are corrupted.Have you gone into the "Emergency Connection" mode to reformat the player? Rest the player; if it's a 20gb stick a paper clip in the reset hole, on a 5 or 6gb remove and replace the battery. Then connect the player to the PC. Hold the enter button down when you turn it on, it should come on and read "emergency connection" at the top within a black band.
You must go to the iriver.com web site and download the firmware updater for your player. Her is the link; http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/hd/. Then select either the 5-6 or 20gb firmware. Run the firmware program while the player is in the "Emergency Connection" mode. You can also get the firmware upgrade info from iriver. That should solve your problems and in addition you will be getting the latest firmware.

i had the same problem..try formatting by right clicking ur drive and then format from my computer. You will lose all ur files though...hopefully it should atleast get ur iRiver to turn on after that!

I wonder can replace the Microwith the Compact flash.
