Clarification Request

It sounds like your hard drive has malfunctioned and is not recognised by the motherboard BIOS (It's now asking for you to insert a CD from which it can boot instead) When you are starting up do you have an option to go to 'Setup' before you get to the system disk error? (You often need to press delete or F2 just after beginning startup) If you can get into the motherboard's Setup program you could check to see if a hard drive is listed there and confirm if this is your problem. Regards, John

There is a system file (a part of Windows) that is missing or that doesn't work 9sometimes happens when the computer loses power or is shut off while it is writing to the hard drive. The solution is to take your original windows CD, boot from the CD, and hit "enter" th install windows, press the F8key to accept the license, and the "R" to repair the Windows installation. It may take 30 or 40 minutes, but this should restore the necessary files. As long as you use the "R" choice, you will not lose any data..

You need to get a system disk from the manufacturer or maybe go to a local computer shop, Best Buy etc, or if you have any techy friends. I have disks but they came with my Dell and I cant give them out. Basically your boot sector is corrupted and it needs to be fixed. Re Install Windows and that should fix it but you will probably lose whats on your drive. I would backup the info if possible, I do that kind of work for my friends but its hard to explain how to get it all done through emails.

just do as it says and insert the disk and press any key or reboot computer and follow the instructions. your opperating system has some errors and hopefully you can repair without loosing all your info. it's at times like these that the need for regular backup is important
