Question about Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver
The result is a frozen window saying "Activation Bluetooth"
I did the following steps and my Nuvi 680 bluetooth is working good now.

1) From the Nuvi main "Where To?" screen, tap "View map"
2) On the map screen, tap the "speed" indicator in the lower left corner of the screen.
3) On the next screen, there is a large round speedometer (mph) near the top center of the screen. Press and hold on the center of the speedometer until the screen changes to a diagnostic mode that says "Shutdowns" at the top.
4) Press "Next"at the bottom of the screen repetitively until you come to a screen that says "Bluetooth statues" at the top...
5) On the Bluetooth Statues screen, press "Updt PR" button in the lower right corner. The screen should show "Do you really want to update the Bluetooth firmware?"... Press "yes"... Let the unit sit for several minutes. It should show "Updating Bluetooth on the screen. When it is complete, it will return to the "Bluetooth Statues screen.... Press "Quit" in the lower left corner... Then return to the main "Where To?"
screen and try enabling and paring the Bluetooth again?.
Additionally, it is best to pair the devices from the cell phones menus and pairing procedures, instead of from the Garmin device......
Note: before re-pairing the Nuvi to your cell phone, make sure you remove the nuvi device fr your cell phone first, then add device. If your nuvi bluetooth still fails after you do this step, then your nuvi bluetooth file maybe corrupted. You will need to download this file and reinstall it to your Nuvi

Casio G'Zone Boulder (Verizon) could not connect to Garmin Nuvi 680 - SOLVED!
I had tried connecting to my Nuvi 680 without success, using firmware 4.11 to current as well as updating the bluetooth firmware (sorry, didnt pay attention to rev. numbers). The Casio Boulder was purchased in the last month. With my previous version Casio G'Zone, bluetooth functioned perfectly, so I suspected it was a problem with the Nuvi.
The Nuvi would not connect to the phone via nuvi->phone or vice versa; The phone's bluetooth ID would show on the screen, as well as the Nuvi's bluetooth ID appearing on the G'Zone when pairing was attempted via that method. However when trying to establish the connection, an error stating "device pairing incomplete" is as far as I could progress.
Solution: Make sure bluetooth is turned ON and navigate to the main menu of the Nuvi. Pair devices via phone->nuvi. SHABAM! It works!
Of note: Upon receiving my first incoming call while connected to the Nuvi, my phone did a soft reset and locked itself. However, I have not experienced that issue since then - everything works fine now.

I received the same instructions from Garmin support as SMCTito, but after I did step 5, the UPDT PR, it still froze when I tried to activate bluetooth. When I got to that screen on a second try, I noticed that bluetooth was already enabled, and the update step turned it off. So I tried the same steps without doing step 5, and now the bluetooth is working. I did not go back and enable bluetooth, it was on. I have a nuvi 680. Note that I connected the nuvi to my computer and reloaded the file in the RemoteSW folder. It did not seem to matter if there were two files or which version I loaded, contrary to some other instructions I've seen. I just took the file out and put it back in the folder, and the device thinks it needs to update the bluetooth firmware when you restart it.

I had a few pixles out on the first one from Amazon and they sent me a replacement overnight, now I have the problem of can't unlock maps, I guess I will send this one back as well, but I hate returning the same product over and over.

Just my two cents...
I was having the same symptoms as described above, which my unit froze when I try connecting an approved bluetooth device. After restarting the unit the bluetooth was disable. First I update my firmware and map software from Garmin's website. Second, follow the steps outlined from SMCTito and it work flawlessly. Note I did not call technical support but wanted to try the method outline first but I did go into their support website and could not find an answer. If Garmin tries to cut corners like Magellan there will be loosing some serious market. Please Garmin don't ignore your customers. Remember who provides the profit... Thank you.

I have since received a replacement unit and it works fine. Occasionally I have a bit of trouble getting the bluetooth between my HTC WM5 PDA/Phone and the Nuvi 770 to engage.
Sometimes I have full access to the phonebook - other times it doesn't see it.
Trial and error usually gets it going again - when it does work it's great.
Mapping seems fine and general functionality appears normal.
It would seem however having read the other posts, that I was not alone, and the problem with the locking up of the maps is a glitch about which Garmin are more than painfully aware.
If you bought the device from a store within 30 days of the problem presenting itself you should be entitled to a complete replacement without having to go through Garmin.
Expect a firmware update soon? I think so.

I have the same problem that everyone is having. Have a Garmin 680. I thought i was the only one with this problem but after doing some searching, here I am feel the pain erveyone feels. I will be calling them ASAP and better dont give no crappy run-around. I am not play either.....
if anyone have a fix for the Bluetooth locking up lets here about it.

Hi I have had the same problem with my 770 the unlock maps is an easy fix if you call Garmin UK support they just get you to create 2 new files with licence numbers but the bluetooth problem is still a pain. I have tried 4 different fixs given to me by garmin and they do not work..Laugh they even said they were unaware of a major problem with the blue tooth..I told them to look on the web

I had the same problem. I downloaded the updates, and then it said Can't Unlock Maps, no POI's, and it sat on the Activating Bluetooth forever. The tech support guy walked me through resetting, and the final solution was also return it for repair. I returned it to Amazon, and they are overnighting a replacement. The next one better act right.. For $730, I'm not playing

I had the same problem and Garmin Tech Support guided me through resetting the unit and reinstalling the latest software and firmware. Their final suggestion was to send it in for repair, so instead I returned it to the store where I bought it.
