I had the horizontal lines (looked like a funky screen saver) which would come on when the laptop overheated. Now I just got a black screen, but the lights come on like it is trying to start up. It is a dv2000 series. Called HP, but mine too is just outside of the extended service warranty. But yet it is a KNOWN problem for HP. I was irrate with HP support. They too told me that they could fix it but it would be around $500. Hellllooooo, I could buy a brand new DELL for that. My tech guy is going to see about finding me a used motherboard, he also couldn't believe that HP would not fix this since it is happening so much. Frustrated!!
To resolve this kind of issue, first let us perform some basic steps.
1. Try connecting the notebook to any external monitor via VGA port (BLUE PORT) and check whether the display is good or not.
2 If the display is good on External monitor, you have to assume that their is some issue with LCD display..
3 . If u have any issue with LCD display , the notebook has to get repaired by any local HP authorised service center.
Hope this could help .
make sure it is the motherboard....try hooking an external monitor to it, to see if maybe it is the screen and/or its connections, the external works off a differernt interface.
