How to restore your computer to factorysettings without a disk? If original andfairly new: While Booting Up.

Every manufacture has or uses different Function Key combinations to do a Factory Default Recovery. Also if it didn't come withdisks there is normally a program in the menus to create your own set of recovery CDs. This must be done before you ever putanything on the recovery partition d:, if you used d: for anything you need toremove what you put there or the recovery will not function.(As soon as yourcomputer is turning on press the F10 key and it will take you to the systemrecovery screen, click on the advanced option and click Destructive recoveryand click next. WARNING: before doing this backup anything on your computer youwant to keep pictures, videos, music etc. This will delete everything that didnot come pre-loaded from the factory, so if you have pictures of Aunt Fae'sClass reunion you should probably back those up if you want to keep them.)
Alt-f10 will reload the restore dvd and boot from that. It has to be in the drive and detected before it works. That will restore or reset windows bak to factory so everything on the drives will be gone ie your pictures email etc etc so be careful.
When you first power on the keys to get into bios are very quickly displayed. This will be ESC or alt-F1 or some other key depending on the bios version. Unless you need to adjust hardware settings you won't need to use the bios.

The partition D is actually a back up partition that has factory image for the original Operating system that was installed in the computer.

It appears that the issue might be with some hardware malfunctions. It may happen due to hardware failure, BIOS mismatch or due to
static charge. Let us try the basic troubleshooting. Turn Off the
Computer, remove all the devices attached to the computer, the power
cable and battrey, now holdon the power button for 15 secs (make sure
adpater and battery are uplugged) it will drain out all the static
charge. Now, restart the computer and keep on tapping F2, you will enter
to BIOS setup utility, press F9 (click "Yes", if you are prompted) and
then press F10 (Click "Yes", if you are prompted), it will restart the
computer. If still it is not booting to normal mode, then we have to
perform a full system recovery & it is a distructive process as you will
loose all the datas on the computer. To do so, Turn Off the computer,
now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key &
keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery
console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction.
NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer
you can use the recovery disk which came along with the laptop to reinstall the OS. There is no function key to start the installation automatically, there is a backup / restore button in some laptops which can reset the OS. Check the manual for any such button on your laptop.
if you have installed vista and change it to xp, you should first delete or reformat your current OS (Operating System) which I believe is the ur vista.
-insert your xp disk then press F8
-click format or delete files ( i don't know the exact message that will appear on the screen)
-then install windows XP (just follow the instruction that you will see on the screen)
if you haven't delete the recovery partition, you can reload the OS using alt+F10.
during boot (after acer logo), press alt+F10, it will guide you to reload your OS.
if your recovery partition is corrupt, you should call acer call center to get the cd or you can buy cd from microsoft
