Question about Toshiba 50H81 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Wavy, jumpy picture, ghosts, occasional color loss/change---you name it!

We have a toshiba 57" rear-projection unit. last fall, it began to start up with the picture being wavy and kind of jumpy, would clear up after about 10 min. now, it's never clear, all written words/numbers are unreadable, images seem to double-up in a jumpy way (like ghosts, but farther apart), sometimes the color isn't correct momentarily, and vertical lines appear. have tried turning it off for a while---no help. have tried the "touch focus" button on front of tv---when procedure is finished, a message reads, "touch focus error". have tried adjusting everything else i can think of/find on menu choices and in manual, but nothing helps. can power surges mess things up like this? is it worth repairing? and what kinds of repairs are we looking at and at what cost? the convergence adjustment is not moving

My 57" Toshiba projection TV recently started having picture problems. The picture is distorted and wavy. The picture on the PIP screen is fine. is this a common problem and is it fixable?

First bypass the cable box and hook the tv directly to the cable to see if the problem goes away. if the problem persists you possibly have a bad input board.

I have a 57 in toshiba rear projection, picture just started jumping and went out, if you put it on another imput for gaming the picture is there but is rounded and is jumpy could you tell me what is wrong...

Possibly not repairable, because many problems are related to a board called the "hyper" board, which is mostly no longer available.-- Most picture problems other than convergence or a bad tube, which doesn't sound like yours.

The picture has ghost images, not lining up

This sounds like a convergence problem. Use the menu functions to reset your set's convergence. If this is not enough, you may need to replace the convergence board.

Sounds like a bad tuner/decoder on the Qam analog side of things. You can bypass this with a Clear qam converter box or a analog to digital tuner box or simply having this repaired upwards of $200 bucks.
