Question about NetGear : WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter, RETAIL (DSNGWG111)
Hi. I have a wireless lap top that I have borrowed from work. However, when I try to connect through my linksys home router, it is asking for the "Wierless Security Password (Encryption Key). Where can I find this encryption key? Thank you.
1.) You would have to connect with an ethernet cable to the router.
2.) Then, you would click the start button on the bottom left, and then go to "Run".
3.) Type in the word, "command".
4.) Then, in the box, type in ipconfig/all.
5.) Then look for the default gateway number.
6.) Then open your web browser, and type in the address bar, that same default gateway number.
7.) The username is usually <blank>, and the default password is "admin".
8.) Then, you would have to go to the "Wireless" tab somewhere, (your gonna have to find this on your own) and then find another tab that should be under wireless that says "security" somewhere (and again, I am so sorry, but you would have to find that on your own again).
9.) a.) And then you would have to find keep in mind the Default Transmit Key(which is a number one though four), as well as what type in of encryption key it is (either a 64-bit or 128-bit encryption keys). And then use the corresponding information to the wireless network key.
9.) b.) So for example, if the default transmit key is three, and you have a 128-bit encryption key for the router, then you would look at the 128-bit encryption chart, and then look at the third row (because the default transmit key is three), and that long code would be your wireless network key.
9.) c.) Also keep in mind that the default transmit key can be changed.
9.) d.) And if there are no network keys in any of the boxes, then type something in the "Passphrase" box (something that you wopuld remember) and then click generate. Once you see the network keys in the chart below, then go back to step 9a.
10.) And then type in that same network key that you got from that page, and then your done!

Hi, you will need to connect the laptop to the router with the ethernet cable for the moment.
Click on start button, click run, type in cmd then press enter.
Black screen appears, type
ipconfig /all press enter
scroll up afterwards look for default gateway you should see one with a number like 192.168.1.1 for example
once you write down that number close the program
load internet explorer
where you type www.ebay.co.uk for example
type in the number 192.168.1.1 or whatever the default gateway is.
it will load the router menu
type in the username and password when it asks.
usually admin and admin, or admin and password.
Once into the main screen, click wireless settings. and you will see the WEP or WPA network key in there,
Write it down, its case sensitive.
unplug cable, try connecting type in network key
Have a nice Christmas
