Question about Symantec Client Security 3.0 with Groupware Protection Business Pack

1 Answer

Incoing and Outgoing Blocked Emails

I recently renewed a license for Symantec Client Security 3.1 w/Groupware Protection for Business Pack 10 user Basic. It is installed on Windows Server 2003.

We are getting complaints from customers that emails are bouncing back and other we have sent them are not arriving. Others arrive without attachments, etc.

Thus, some incoming, some outgoing emails and attachments are not getting through and others are.

Is it possible that the license renewal was not installed properly; or the engine and filters are having some sort of conflict?

It may be certain ISP's that this occurs like Comcast and maybe yahoo. But can't determine consistency as yet.

Re: Incoing and Outgoing Blocked Emails

I had a confirmation email dated 11th January 2008 for my renewal of Norton Security and it was debited to my Visa account. I am still being told that my Norton Security has expired and the computer is at risk.

You need to activate your Norton program with the product key or the renewal code that you purchased for an year.

To enter the renewal code or the serial, please open your Norton product and click on the "RENEW" or "ACTIVATE" or "SUBSCRIBE" button on the bottom of your product and enter it there to activate your one year subscription.

Winfax client could not connect to host computer

This error occurs for many different reasons, mainly it could be a firewall or anti-virus blocking ports that WinFax uses for fax sharing, or it could be Service Pack 2 or 3 that was installed that causes these ports to be blocked.

It also could be that you installed version 10.04 overtop an older version like 10.02, which will cause problems.

Here is where you can start,

Can't update symantac 11

please see to it that the product is genuine
When live update fails, it is most likely due one of the following reasons:
· No license file (*.slf) is installed
· The installed license file (*.slf) has expired
· The trial period has expired
· The installed license file (*.slf) has been deleted, or become damaged or corrupted
· The software is not able to able to communicate with the Symantec servers

No license file (*.slf) is installed
It is necessary to have a valid license file installed into the program to authorize it for the download of the content updates using Live Update.
It is necessary to register your license(s) at the Licensing Portal ( to generate the license file if it was not included with your license certificate (*.pdf).

The license file (*.slf) has expired
It is required to have a current support contract to be authorized to have the most current content updates downloaded. If you have renewed your support contract, it is necessary to register your license(s) at the Licensing Portal ( to generate the new license file if it was not included with your license certificate (*.pdf).
This could also be the case if you have a current support contract, but had a trial license key installed in the software. It is necessary to register the support contract renewal to generate the new license file.
The trial period has expired

Many of Symantec's products offer a limited-time trial period where you can test the software in your environment. When the trial period expires, the software will typically cease to function as part of the Trialware installation agreement.

The installed license file (*.slf) has been deleted, is damaged or corrupted
If the license file that was installed in the program has been deleted or is corrupted, it is necessary to reinstall the license.
You can re-download the license file from the Licensing Portal account the license was registered in. If you registered the license into your Licensing Portal account, you can log into your account and re-download the license file. If the license was registered into the account of another person, you would need to contact that person to have them re-download a copy of the license file or provide you access to re-download the license file from their account.

The software is unable to communicate with the Symantec servers
The Symantec software must be able to establish a connection to the servers to be able to download the current content updates. If the software is unable to establish the server connection, then it will not be able to download the content updates.
You would need to check your network security settings to ensure the network traffic is not being blocked. If you believe your network's security settings might be blocking the Symantec software from communicating to the Live Update servers, contact Symantec Technical Support for assistance. You can find the phone number for your region here:
One example of this occurring is when trying to install a license file into Symantec Mail Security 4.6 or later you get the following error message: "Symantec Premium AntiSpam registration failed. The product will not receive definition updates".

My computer keeps telling me my Norton AntiVirus cover is out of date. This was renewed on Friday 4 April. Order No. 1847546580. Password: tinker. Please confirm

You need to update this order number into Norton Antivirus. Additionally NAV may actually need to be reinstalled. Symantec should be able to talk you through any issues with your resubscription process, as you haven't been specific enough with what you have done on with your client software during the renewal fo your subscription.

Hi i have just renewed my norton protection on my comp and it was accepted but im having a prob. Every time i want to scan for viruses or get rid of one an error message pops up saying that i have not...

Sometimes when reinstalling Norton, or just renewing the license, it uses some of the data from the previous installation.

Check the Symantec website for specific problem first, you are not the first guaranteed!

The best and assured method is to download the Norton Removal Tool and remove all products, just uninstalling won't do it. Then reinstall (you may find you have another years subscription!). Be sure to save your license information before total removal.

A few notes:
Norton is the best, the 400 lb gorilla on the block. Some will try to convince you otherwise. I wont enumerate the reasons, but it does what it is supposed to, and many, many users use it successfully.
Don't renew, buy new! There is usually not a big cost difference between the renewal, and the latest program. You don't gain much in effectiveness but you do get the latest user interface and program improvements.
