Slide off track

Ok... hi everyone... names r.j... so yeah me and my freind were using my amera and she made this really funny video. When she showed it to me it was so hillarious I accidently droped the camera and now the slide is not connected AT THE BOTTOM. It will still silde left and right and the camera ill turn on and off.. but now i think i have some technical problems... Sometimes ill tur the camra on after i just put in some recharged batteries and it will say i only have a lil battery power left. And then ill do it again and it will not turn on at all just flash a red lighgt. I got the batteries like a month and a half ago and have been using them faithfully everyday. so is the problem with he batteries or my camera.

PS. The camra will still take pictures and show play back like before.

Re: Slide off track

A little of both.

for some reason, the cover on this model is very connected to the ability to take pics. My daughter's friend dropped hers on the cement and dented the cover. It took us a while to get it sliding at all, and we could not turn the camera on until we did!

Now, on the batteries - especially as the camera ages (not sure why), rechargable batteries are just not powerful enough for this little energy hog.

We've only found one model that actually works in this camera worth a hoot. Energizer "e" batteries in the silver and BLUE packaging. We buy those by the larger pack, since we have three HP cameras. It has made a world of difference. (And note - these batteries are not really dead when they no longer power the cameras - they still have plenty of life left for other battery-operated items that are not digital. I use them in hair trimmers, flashlights and such.

Seriously - rechargables are pretty much useless in this model for more than one or two pics.

Play coolpix s230 video files

First of all, do not use that memory card until this file is properly recovered (take the card out of the camera). See the following video of a freeware recovery solution (PhotoRec). Recommend this program instead of what you used for recovery. PhotoRec is s usually very accurate in file recovery, including videos. This link shows where to get it with additional info on how to do it.

How to add a sountrack using video editing?

You can use ArcSoft ShowBiz which I have tried recently. Their new version ShowBiz 5 is great to add and edit multiple tracks including audio and video ones. You simply drag a music file to the interface and it is added to sound track auto, you drag the edges and the track is cut or spreaded. It's really cool.

I am able to get the motion of the video but there

The C182 records audio but does not play it back. To hear your videos, first transfer them to your computer and play them back there.

Top right slider button won't slide to "picture" will only take pictures, and won't take videos also, the right side faceplate came off because both screws fell out.

This is a very easy fix, Recommend first calling 1-800-OK-CANON to get an estimate for their repair. It really should not be costly at all to repair due to the ease of the repair.

But, if they seem unreasonable in their estimate, you'll need to move the back face plate backward just enough so that you can align the slide button with its inner switch. Just remove the screws (keeping track of where they go) along the perimeter of the back faceplate. Using your fingers only, gently pry the plate back a small amount sufficient enough that you can move the switch to its other position. Reseat the back and see if the switch moves freely. Then try out the camera, and reseat the screws.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the above, find a friend who is.

Sound Lag

This is a known issue (though Aiptek might deny it) with this model. Check out this forum at Steve's Digicams for posts on the MPVR and the lag:

It can be fixed with video editing software. I use Windows Movie Maker to copy the audio track from the video and paste it back in as a separate audio track. Then I mute the original and cut very little snips off the pasted-in audio track and slide it over until it matches the video.

It's supposed to be possible to fix this problem with software that will reduce the framerate from 30fps to 29.97fps or 25fps (don't remember which), but I haven't had any luck with that method so far.

Display problem

This sounds like the dreaded CCD sensor problem especially since you can play back ok. Try to have it done free of charge by canon agent...not that hard to motivate because the sensor should last 10 years + . Replace CCD sensor !

Lost Images (photos)

If you have the camera software loaded on the computer- remove it. Now plug the camera in and Windows Scanner/amera Wizard should come up. Go to my computer and see if you have a new removeable media drive come up. If you have do this. Gon on line and goto and download and install PC Inspector. Run this program and directit the the new drive whil will be the camera. and follow the prompts.
