Re: keyboard

She cant log on or her key is not functioning? be specific

if it is the key, use an external keyboard

if it doesnt work and u r sure it is the keyboard then the keyboard controller is damaged... u would probably need the chip replaced or the whole system board replaced

if it is not the key, then press f8 before windows boots and get into safe mode.... use the admin account to log in and see if u can access her files

Once encountered a situation where a function key was stuck (don't remember which, probably a Shift).
I repeatedly pressed all function keys individually, several times.
Problem gone.

The answer is at your fingertips but without the Model No. I have to just guess.
Some (Dell) have a switch on the side. Some (HP) use a function + F#key. My wife's gateway is a finger touch to the little antenna icon on the upper portion of the keyboard.

If this did not help.

You could have deleted the keyboard in the device manager. If so, rebooting your computer and it will find it.
Are all the keys not working or just some? Take a look at this hint and see if it fits.
I do this for fun & feedback not $$$

The "Fn" function on keyboard is on. I want it off. Help!

Look for something that says FN Lock or look for a Look symbol on the keyboard . It's usually on the SCROLL key.

Best of luck!

Some of my kerys arent workng....underscore...equals and the letter eye....can you help?

Usually it's a hardware problem. Easiest thing to do is order a replacement keyboard from eBay and just swap the old one for a new one.

In the meantime any usb keyboard will work.

Best of luck!

Laptop Mousepad and Keyboard stuttering, slow

This may be a battery power monitor issue. Try disabling the "Mircosoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery" device. This is located in Control Panel-->System-->Hardware Tab-->Device Manager-->Batteries. Had similar problem with 2 Acer Aspire series laptops (diff models). 2 and 3 year old. Original batteries (both still hold charges for 1.5 hrs of normal usage). Running WinXP, one with SP2 and other had SP3. Both came in the last month with slow jerky TPAD function and nearly non responsive keyboard access. Checked the usual; virus, spyware, hijacking, driver conflict etc. Cloned drive and factory installed..still same problem with kb & mouse. However an external USB keyboard and mouse functioned normally (no lag). Noticed with Battery removed kb & mouse was normal. Finally found disabling ACPI control battery device resolved this issue while allowing laptop to run on either battery or AC.
