Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F717 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Movie trouble I haven't had my camera very long, it was a hand-me-down from my dad. So, this past week I took my first videos with it. All seems good on the LCD screen, but when I try and view it on my computer it is all distorted and blurry. The sounds is great the picture is just awful. Were my settings wrong? It is opening up in the newest version of Windows Media Player, am I missing some drivers for viewing? Thanks for any help~ Lisa

Is it possible to recover missing pictures?

I don't think those picture can be recovered as those might have stored in the temporary memory for a while and every time he took another pic it might have over-written in the previous one..

Better remove the Micro SD card and try to connect to PC and check if its available in the card

My Dad took pictures at my Graduation a couple of weeks ago but the batteries were low so he kept losing power. According to my Dad, everytime he took a picture he saw it on the display screen yet day

do not write anything to your camera's removable memory card, otherwise you willt re-write the files and permanently lose your videos and pictures.
Install this recovery software called Tenorshare Photo Recovery.
From inside the software,navigate/choose your memory card letter( "D", "F", "G" ... ? ) and scan the section where it says "Raw Recovery", "Videos" or "Photos" . Scan the memory card and Set the destination folder(folder where recovered files will be saved) somewhere on your computer.
BTW, you can get this recovery software from
Tenorshare Photo Recovery for Windows
Tenorshare Photo Recovery for Mac
It will show you thumbnails for your pictures that it found on your memory card.
WARNING:there will be lots of recovered files,do not set the destination folder as your DESKTOP,otherwise you'll end up having 100000 files on your desktop... = total mess :)

  • play the movie and pause it at the frame which you need the photo
  • tap " Prtint Screen Key " on your keyboard
  • open MSPAINT and click edit and paste it
  • it would appear as a picture
  • so do the same and save each and everyframe in the same way

I have a Canon PowerShot A590 - still pictures are very clear. I took videos several weeks ago and they were very clear, now videos are blurry

Did you change your camera video's settings? There is an option where you can set it to a lower definition, like for videos. To change, choose the camera setting "Video" Then, Press the Left Or Right Arrows.

Video took with this camera - doesn't have audio.

Unfortunately the camera was not designed to have audio capability in the movie mode. There are no speakers that are used to capture sound during movie recording.

Unable to view videos on PC

Try playing with the different resolutions/fps for movie recording, maybe a different setting will work. Regarding playback on the computer - I use VLC media player, and when it can't open a video, I find that there's nothing else that can. It's one way to get an estimate on the question if the problem is in the camera or PC. If you want to use quicktime you'll have to get some codecs for it - DivX - XviD etc. I guess that the supplied Digimax Viewer should also be able to play the movies, it would seem strange if not, but who knows. Good luck
