Question about Sylvania LC370SL8 37 in. LCD Television
I thought I was having the same problem with our tv remote, then rechecked the batteries (which I had changed about a week ago, thinking they were the problem). Sure enough, one battery was facing the wrong way. I switched it around and all is working as it should. Hope your problem just needs a simple fix like this.

The IR detector has failed. it is inside the tv and it is not a do it yourself job.
