Our 7 year old Saeco Magic Delux has started to leak water when we fill the tank. It runs out of the bottom of the tank and down the side. Happens about 20% of the time. Is it worth having a 7 year old one...

If I understand well the problem is only with tanks valve which means the spring have become more soft and stays a litle open so you have water leak. It maybe because some scale or dirt keep it open some time.
In order to decide if it wise to fix it or not the answer is simple if you have a good coffee result in cup which means that the grinder grinds good, presure pump work good and boiler heat up ok then you will only need to complete descale the machine and replace only small cheap parts and you will have a very good machine again for some more years. Remember a brand new machine will do the same espresso like yours.

Water pump?

If you could brewer coffee or get hot water out of the steam wand then it could be the one way valve on the bottom of the water tank. If you are running the pump output into a glass then it is probably scaled up in the boiler.

Water leaking under the tank

If the water is coming from under the cold water tank on the back of the machine it probably the o-ring seal in the grey machine recepticle which is visable when you remove the tank for filling. This seals the tank to the machine body and over time can leak (mine has!!). You can get them from Gaggia UK in Halifax

Water leaking out from water container

You either have a small crack on the water tank and/or the connection from the bottom of the tank reservoir to the machine is not sealing properly. ( i.e similar to putting the tank on top of a flat surface, the tank will leak as the seal connections gets pushed up and water begins to flow out)- it is that component that I am refering to. If you can inspect it to pin point the problem - if the latter is the case (valve), could try purchasing a new o-ring, piston, and valve. Suggest contact

Water leaking into machine

This happens when the boiler develops a leak, usually due to scale buildup. Order a new boiler and o-rings and replace.
