Doesn't solve problem. But none the less a very helpful guide.

Its a FREECOM 160GB hard drive. On the Windows XP O.S.

I have tried to "remove program then reinstal the Manufacturers installation" again . All successfully but the actual H.D ofcourse

still has stored on it the backup record. With the original password. Which I can't delete. So I'm back to square one.

I don't know how to erase the disc. Suspect I don't have the software to do as you advise.

Thanks all the same for your help regards Bob

Everything is possible. Few points. Is this external hd? Did you used the software and the drivers given by the manufacturer? Which OS are you using?
Yes it is possible to erase everything on any type of the drive and start from scratch. You can do this by formatting the drive make sure you do NTFS format.
Let me know please!

    Please contact http://www.freecom.com/ecSupport.asp

I am sure they have their own custom made programs which will help you make your drive to factory defaults by erasing the password.

Right now I use NAS from Linksys on my network, it has its own built in software through which it erases the drives and formats to its own format. Windows will not help in formatting as its own software controls it.

Is this a SATA drive and what operating system is loaded on it? .
you may have to insert the installation disk to reset the password.
There is a Linux program on the internet to reset the password to default but there is no guarantee to this. This is for Windows XP
2. You can also get some one with a Linux box to view and backup your data on another hard drive but the PC will have to be compatible to accommodate the hard drive capacity.
3. Try not entering a password at all when in the password/ user screen "hit enter"

The security is pretty tight on that software you might have to delete the folder or format the jump drive.
