My Dyson DC08 fell down the stairs (it's supposed to be designed to sit on...) and immediately stopped working. Will no longer power on. 'On' button seems OK - i.e. makes the click sound when pushed - but machine doesn't start. Have an expensive call out booked for Dec 24th but if anyone can suggest anything before then that would be great. We tried taking it apart but looks like it needs a pretty specialist screwdriver to get in there!

The HEPA filter in your DC08 Animal is designed to last the lifetime of the cleaner, and should not require attention. Do not try to wash this filter, as this could cause damage.
this filter needs washing at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergent, and ensure the filter is completely dry before replacing it.

This is a really common ailment of the Dyson DC08. The switch is failing due to a build up of dust in the cavity where the motor and switch sit. You will need to buy a new switch to fix the immediate problem and also a filter kit to keep it lasting longer. Vacuumspot.com.au is the best Australian supplier for vacuum cleaner parts.
I have uploaded a youtube video of how to change the motor. You can watch that video to see how to change the switch too since they are right next to each other.
If this is a helpful solution please take a moment to rate my answer.
Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. Almost certainly it is the motor gone :(. Take off the lid that is under your bin and look at the filter underneath, if it has a black underside and a kind of burnt smell you will need to put a new motor in. If you happen to live in Australia you can get a motor from NelsonVacuums.com.au here is a link to the correct page. Hope this helps.
I have made a video showing how to replace the motor on a Dyson DC08. If you follow the instructions you should be able to do it. If you find the video helpful please give me a thumbs up or a comment.
If you find you need parts for this procedure I would recommend Vacuumspot or Nelson Vacuums
Dont forget to let me know how you go!.
