Re: compaq presario 158793-001 motherboard

I have a compaq 1247 laptop. I had problems after I took it apart. It was very difficult to get the processor chip back in properly, the little clip has to "snap" in place to hold the chip firmly in the socket. That solved my problem.

Re: compaq presario 158793-001 motherboard

Hey Mike

Go back and check the fine cabling that connects LED indicaters to motherborad. There's got to be a small cable you forgot to plug into the board to feed back poer state. Take your time and check everything twice.

I receive an error of CPU Fan Failure upon start up and then it shuts off. I will start it again and it is fine. I have found on the initial start up, if I'm really quick and hit F2, it will start up ok....

It seems like your pc is overheatting. Open the case on your pc and check wheather the fan that is in top of your cpu is running. If it is not take it out and take it to the close computer shop and buy a new one. It is simple to replace a fan.

Where is clock battery in my laptop compaq presario 1246

Remove the touchpad screws on the bottom of the laptop. Lift the touchpad and the keyboard. Remove the flat metal heatpipe above the CPU (3 screws). On the bottom left, just above the HDD you should see a small circuit board held by 3 screws. Remove these, lift the circuit board and there you go, the battery is there.

Fan is noisey.. i was told I need a new one.. can i fix it

You don't say if this is a laptop or a tower version.

If a laptop, leave it to a repair shop as it takes skill to open and get back together in one piece. If a tower, open the case and investigate. Sometimes a wire will bend and hit the fan... if the fan can be removed easily, maybe you can do it yourself. Use the same size AND RATING fan and install in the correct airflow direction.

Compaq Presario X6000 middle fan not running when connected to system board. removed and tested and it works. Why is not getting power from board?

What middle fan are you talking about?
The case fan?
There should be at least two power connectors on the motherboard for a case fan. Try another.
It would be really unusual for the power connector to fail. Perhaps there is a loose wire in the fan connector that comes loose when you try to connect it to the motherboard.

sounds like a burnt up fan so you might just want to take it to your local computer tech have them replace the fan and put some new cpu compound in their and it will never over heat again

Compaq BIOS update F.37 bricks Presario?

BIOS is not corrupted. yo download the wrong BIOS. either for the worng machine (I do think so-twice?). or you download the earlier version.
nothing you can do.
go to ebay or criglist see if any body is selling the same motherboard that works.
get it and replace the BIOS chip, you don't nee to replace the whole motherboard. just the BIOS chip.

Compaq presario 1246 d.c. socket

Hi this is not an easy job and the work would need a step by step live chat to do, I dont know if you could get a tech such as myself to live chat for about two and a half hours. My best solution for you is that you look on Ebay in the computer section, there is often advertised computer ebooks, some especialy for laptops. I do not know how good these books are but it may be a way for you to solve the problem you have. Just make sure that as you dismantle you laptop you write down where every piece and every screw goes or you will end up with a lot of leftovers. Regards mistyman

My Presario 700 stopped working after overheating can I fix it myself ?

It depends on what burned out. If its the power supply, then no problem, you can get an after market replacement reasonably priced. A plug-in video card is easily replaced as well. If its on the motherboard, it would depend on the part. Unfortunately when something on the motherboard overheats, there's no guaranty that you won't have problems with the operating system freezing-up on you a lot. Usable, but very annoying. Of course you'll have to look things over closely to find what part. If the fan on the power supply doesn't come on at all, it's a good possibility its bad.
