Try this registry repair program, unplug usb delete old install, download current driver/software to suit from manufactures web and install.
If you are using network printers there can be more invovled, ie need to be logged in as Admin.

Tip: The max point reward for answering a question is 15.
This error is due to the cartridge and nothing else. Just replace the color cartridge and try to use the printer with both (color and black) cartridges. Then it will not give that error again. After installing the cartridges, try to re-install the drivers and restart your system.

I believe you have installed the driver from the CD (you did not mention the operating system). Hence I recommend to install the UPD (universal Printer Driver) PCL6 for your machine. Remember to disconnect the computer and connect the printer only when the installation wizard asks you to do so.
Try uninstalling the Printer drivers from the program file and then install the printer drivers from MSconfig.
If you have windows XP or any latest operating system u can try ms config.
Click on start then click on run and type MSCONFIG
select "selective start up" and then install the printer drivers using the cd.Click on add printer and continue the steps.
After installing once again come back to msconfig and select normal startup.
