6hp Johnson outboard stalls & quits

My 6hp Johnson outboard motor is to stalls & quits. Fuel is getting to the pump from the hose. When the motor starts to falter, I hand pump the bulb hard but motor stalls anyway. Nothing wrapped around prop. Fresh gas with conditioner. Vent is open on tank. Plugs new. I use quick start sprayed into carb breather to get motor started. Was working fine until I added fresh gas. Gas is being picked up from 6 gal tank, plenty of pressure at plug connection to out board, no leaks.

Go to an auto parts store and get a can of gasoline additive called seafoam. Read the label so you know how much to add to your 6 gallon tank. This stuff works wonders on outboard motors.

1957 johnson outboard 10 hp fuel mixture ratio

https://www.google.com/search?q=1957+johnson+outboard+10+hp+fuel+oil+ratio

What is the mix ratio for a Johnson outboard motor?

Any Johnson outboard motor built since 1964 requires a 50/1 fuel ratio. Motors built prior to that date require a 32/1 ratio, with the exception of a few fishing motors built prior to 1955 that use a 16/1 ratio.

I have a short shaft Johnson 6hp outboard, the Jon boat I mounted it on is too deep, and motor doesn't reach water. Is there a way to lower motor? A bracket to lower motor to reach water?

outboard motor manufacturers supply a long shaft leg for just this problem
Talk with your Johnson dealer and check used outboards on e bay
Lowering the whole motor may affect the boat and floatation aspects besides making it harder to steer and start

40 Hp Johnson outboard motors stalls out after a few minutes running then takes forever to start again

May likely be one of two problems:

1. Fuel flow: Make sure fuel tank vent is open and not blocked while engine running. Check primer bulb is working and no air leaks along hose anywhere. Check function of fuel pump and ensure fuel is getting to the cylinders.

2. Overheating: Check engine isn't overheating and that water pump is operating properly while engine is running.

1974 Johnson 70 hp outboard, quits on acceleration.

It sounds like your motor is starving for fuel. At an idle, you have adequate flow to keep the engine running. When you call for more fuel...you sputter and quit. Could be a clogged filter or trash in the line or in a jet. Yes you will have some air in the bulb, but not a great deal. You could be sucking air at a hose connection (loosing some prime)...try this, start the engine and slowly accererate, have someone pump the bulb as you accelerate, see if the engine works properly while doing this test.

1974 johnson outboard motor 25hp stalls when hiting high end

Not familiar with that specific motor but had similar vintage smaller HP Johnsons. From my experience it sounds like it could be that the high speed carb adjustment is too lean. What I would try is running the backing off the high speed screw 1/4 turn to 3/4 turn, then test. If works better, screw back in in 1/8 turn increments until the problem recurs, then back out 1/4 turn and leave it there.
