Re: CPU repair

Sounds like your power supply shut down. replace the power supply with a higher wattage rated unit.

Sounds like you need a new cooling fan.You may be able to save yours with some electrical contact cleaner spray.
Remove fan and spray.
The cpu will heat up quick and shut down everything to protect itself.Im sure once you get a new fan you will be up and running again.
You may consider reapplying new conductive paste to the processor while you have the case open.

please make certain your memory chips are seated into the mainboard. Also, make sure that your mainboards power cable, and your CPU's power cable (the small yellow and black one) are secured to the board. If your components are secured to the board correctly, you may have an issue with the board, CPU, or power supply. If your pc is under warranty, I suggest you contact Dell for troubleshooting.

Amd phenom faulty

Replace cpu fan , failed cpu fan might have caused CPU stoped working. If you are sure about the CPU fails then replace the CPU. If the problem seems continues after that too, then PC might have failed to boot due to other reasons. What shows on the screen once you power on the computer? There could be , motherboard , or harddisk faults too. Try unplugging other parts and see if the computer boots from CD or USD flash or floppy drive!! Once you know that motherboard works then replace the CPU. There could be BIOS setup problem. Did you check the BIOS for harddisk is set properly.

Turns off

I assume you have a desktop computer. It is either the CPU is overheating or the 'Power Supply" is overheating/failing. Put your hand at the top back of your computer where the power supply is to feel if the fan is blowing air out the back. If there is no air coming out the back, then I think the fan has failed and the power supply overheats and fails. Repair or replace the fan before the power supply totally fails and has to be replaced.

Also check the fan and heat sink on the CPU. If they are loaded down with dust, the CPU is not getting cool enough, With power OFF, remove the fan and heat sink, clen them and put them back. That will do wonders to cool the CPU.

Problem with my Computer

Is this a desktop or a laptop?

In either case, it could be one of your fans is not functioning. There is a fan on top of the heatsink on the CPU. If it's not turning then the CPU will shut itself down before it's destroyed...this is a good thing. If this is a desktop then the case fan may have failed. Make certain both of these fans are turning. You will need to open the computer to see the CPU fan.

If they are both turning then it's possible the CPU heatsink fins are filled with dust. This prevents airflow. If this is the case, use your vaccuum cleaner to get the dust out. This will be much easier if you have a desktop, opening laptops is more involved.

Please let us know what you find.

Pc is not starting up

I'm sorry to tell you but your cpu has probably fried. Your pc hanging a lot probably meant something was overheating and the fact that you say your cpu is not hot when you have the cooling fan off of it means it is probably the cpu. When you first turn your system on without a cpu cooling fan, the cpu should be slightly warm, although I do not recommended running a cpu at all without a cooling fan or even touching it when it has power.
