YOu need the operating cd or dvd. A copy of OS X. You cannot download it, unless you go to shady websites like limewire, but i would not recommend it or any other p2p sites. It would be like setting fire to a broken arm. You need to purchase OSX TO KNOW WHAT YOURE GETTING. It sounds like you need to verify that the hard drive is faulty by booting up from a cd or dvd. This will not fix the problem if the hard drive is failing, it will only verfiy the the computer does not see it. Hold down the "C" key, instructs the computer to start from the optical drive, but the disc has to already be in the machine. Ebay or your local may be the cheapest place to find it.

You can also hold down the "option" key as well, this will allow you to choose the bootable volume to start up from. 10.3 and previous came on cd. 10.4 and the current 10.5 is available on dvd.

Keep me posted.

My daughter deleted some programs on my g4 17" now all i have is a white screen

Install gray disc 1, shut down, press and hold C to boot from disc, select install in English or whatever language you speak, go to the top and select utilities, select disc utility, select your hard drive on the left side of the screen select repair disc permissions, and let the laptop do it's thing. Then select repair disc and let the laptop do it's thing. Now quit, and restart from hard drive. See if that don't help you any old chap.

Boot up the mac with the instal disk holding down the c key on your keyboard once it has booted up go to the menus and you will see a change the password item, use this to change the password. Once you have changed it quit out off the instal disk. Hope this helps.

Broken apple g4 laptop lcd

Go on e-bay and buy you a new screen or a good used screen for cheap and do the replacement yourself. The process is really quite painless. Go to ifixit for the instructions or you can go on you tube and watch the videos.

Connecting another Mac to a laptop

Connect the 2 with a firewire cable. Reboot the Mac you want to read from & hold the T key down while it boots up. A large firewire symbol shows on the screen indicating FireWire Target Mode. The other Mac should be showing up as a firewire drive on the other Mac.

Ibook g4 freez

Freezing is a HD problem. Do you hear clicking sometimes? Sometimes on boot up is there a foler with a questionmark in it? I would get your hard drive looked at, this is the reason disc utility fails. Your hard drive has a hiccup.

Need Mac G4 laptop schematic manuel

Not sure if you want an actual circuitry schematic, or a internal parts guide.

A manual for field-replacing just about every component inside your Powerbook can be found here.

I expect that circuitry schematics are much harder to come by, and are actually likely to be protected by trade secrets.

WhicH is the actual model/processor? And you will definitely need 3 specific tools. Let me know which model and I can send over a thorough site with photos and procedures.
