Inaccurate error message

I get this erroneous message-more than one ink tank of the following color is installed cyan Canon Pixma iP4200 When I go to print I get the message 'more than one ink tank of the following colour is installed.  Black (5).  Use only one ink tank per colour at a time.'  I have to click the cancel printing button. I turn the printer off.  Turn on again - then open the lid to see the Black (5) ink is flashing - so I remove it and then put it back then close and go to print and it works OK. WHY?

I tried the suggestion I got on another forum to clean the chip on the ink tank with metho. It did work for a while then had the same problem again so even though it was a full tank of ink I put in a new one and haven't had the same problem (touch wood) since. I now want to get a replacement ink so will contact the supplier to see how, I have only used Canon ink since I purchased the Canon printer so Canon should replace it. We'll see.

It is the technology. Canon printers are made to burn big holes in the customer's pockets. 4200 gives near lab standard prints however, the user's are made to pay for this luxury. I have been using canon printers for the last 3 yrs(4200 for a year). The main objective of the manufacturer is to compel you to buy those cartridges which are shamelessly priced for more than 10 times there worth. Again I am almost sure that every single 4200 user has encountered problems with cartridges(Genuine canon) the cartridges are so made that the tiny circuit board on it will refuse for no apparent reason to respond. the only remedy would be to throw the cart.away and get a new one. Cleaning/deep cleaning/head alignment/nozzle check etc are all aimed at sucking the cartridges empty.Don't get discouraged by those scary warnings about refilling or compatible inks. For smarter people canon allows some tricks (override error messages ...) If you are a professional photo printer like me use your 4200 as if it is an offroad 4WD drive for 3 to 4 months and throw away.

Pixma ip4200 willl not print Cyan

I think the problm lies between the ink tank and the printhead. When this passage runs dry, sometimes it takes time for the ink to fill this passage again. Try printing again after a day or two.

Pixma IP4200- not printing color

If it's a generic ink, try another one, if it's a Canon ink, make sure the tape on top is removed, it covers an air vent, if that doesn't help, you need a new printhead, QY6-0059-000 around $40.00

Replaced two ink tanks in my pixma but the lights will not flash

You cant realy do anything, i had the same problem whit my IP5000.
I tryed everything but nothing helped, after speaking whit canon here in sweden they told me to let it be, after next tank instalation it will disappear and you printer will be as usal again. Canon told that the problem is on the chip on the tank. When the printer tell you that the tank is empty or not right just press the blinking yellow button on the printer and hold it for at least 5 seconds.

Good luck

Canon Pixma ip4200 printer, error 1414

Hello there,

I've gotten in touch with Canon and have something a little different to try. At the very least the error should change. (Sorry, gallows humor). Please read this entire response before taking action.

After the upcoming test procedure, I have included a link and procedure to contact Canon tech support. The assure me they will replace any faulty tanks.

The purpose of this exercise is either rule out ink tanks that are behaving or isolate the one(s) responsible for the 1414. You should write down the results of this test. Please perform the following:

1. Open the printer and remove all ink tanks.

2. Insert a single ink tank in the printer then close the cover.

3. Confirm whether the printer recognizes the installed tank properly. If it does, it will indicate it does not detect the other ink tanks, as they are not currently installed in the printer.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 with another ink tank.

5. If the printer at any time indicates two of the same ink tanks are installed, the cause will be the last tank installed. For example, if you inserted an ink tank earlier, and you later inserted another ink tank, and it said two of the same inks were installed, the cause of the issue is the last ink tank.

Click here for the Canon PIXMA iP4200 support page
Then click on e-mail support.
Fill out the form.
Under description, supply the following info:

Error 1414 Ink tank problem on my Canon PIXMA iP4200
The error won't go away.
I have replaced the <color in question> tank, reseated it, yet the error remains.

You will also need to list what inks are being used in the printer. State the type of ink that is being used and the order that the tanks are installed in the print head.
Provide the exact part number (such as BCI-6C, BCI3eBk, etc.) if possible.

The Canon support rep assured me they will be glad to replace the malfunctioning tank(s) for you at no cost. Please
respond with the results, and specify the ink tank(s) that were not recognized correctly.

They responded quickly, professionally and apologetically. They want to help get this resolved for you.

I hope this helps end the frustration you must be feeling. If you need additional help or clarification, click the ASK button.

Mike

If you could take a moment and rate this response, I would appreciate it.
