Camera froze, I can power on but nothing happens

I turn on the camera and nothing will happen screen wise. The power button has the blue around it letting me know it is in fact on, but nothing comes up on the screen. The only way I can then shut it off is by taking the battery out. The lens does not retract back into the camera either. I was told to reset it but I do not know how. I don't know why it was all of a sudden, I took some pictures then went to shut it off and the lens did not retract, and wouldn't shut off, the screen just went black. Now It won't do anything at all!
