Re: old computer

You can try "Ctrl+Alt+Esc";
Additionally, to restore Acer BIOS - press and hold the F10 key while powering on;
Others you can try are: F1, F2, Esc, Del & F10
On some really old machines:

Hope that this be of some help. Pls post back how things worked out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Asus k43sm doesn't boot after application of thermal paste

If you put thermal paste on the processor, you need to recheck the processor to be sure that it is seated right, no pins are bent and that the ZIF socket is put back in locked position. If this was not the processor that you put the paste on, then it might not be electrically neutral and you have shorted it out with the wrong paste.

I dont have a laptop or the same computer but I have the same problem. However my problem is even more painful as my computer wont frickin recognize my keyboard. So I cant enter BIOS or boot the Windows...

You're not using a wireless keyboard that could have a "dead" battery inside????

Check that the keyboards (PS/2 and USB) work in some other desktop computer.

Disconnect the disk-drive's "data" cable.

Hold down any key on the keyboard, and then turn your computer on, hoping to generate a "keyboard error; press any key to enter BIOS setup" message.
Now, does the keyboard work?

Insert the Windows CD-ROM.
Startup your computer, and it should boot from the CD-ROM (since the disk-drive is not accessible).

Eventually, it will "pause", and ask for keyboard input.

Try each keyboard, and see if either keyboard works.

If not, then your motherboard is the cause of your problems, and needs to be replaced.

Fitted new graphics card now i have to press F1 key to reboot

hi david_culley,

looks like the installation did not work out properly
you may be caught in a routine that the machine boots up continously,
If you have an onboard graphics card, please disable it in the BIOS before your computer can find the newly installed device.

try this and if you still face the prob please come back to fixya.

Good luck
