Question about Brother MFC-8500 All-In-One Laser Printer
Hi there, this problem was posted over a year ago so I boubt you will check this but the best help I ever get is from discussion boards so I think its time to return the favor. I spent 3 hours on this one and finaly figured it out. After following all the steps on solutions.brother.com you need to fully uninstall all brother drivers and reinstall the correct drivers based specifically on your model. In this case mfc 8500. I did this and even went as far as downloading (from above website) the official uninstall tool. I then tried it again and still my driver install would bug at the "click next when connected" But when i connect my printer it doenst let me click next.
Anyways for me the answer to my problem lay in the simple answer of the usb cable i was using. I had a labtop connected to a USB connector conected to a paralell port adapter connected to the printer. I had a theory that the parallel port and usb werent communicating. Keep in mind that the before all this the printer worked fine but the scanner and email fax did not. I then diconected the paralell port from the printer and found a usb entry (weird shape not sure of the term) at the back of the printer. Looked through my cables and sure enough had the usb/weird shape usb cable. Once i connected that to the labtop like a flash everything worked. This was grueling but i hate to admit defeat to computer problems. if you read this..i hope it helps.
Get official uninstall
decompress and use it.
restart. (will not work if you dont)
Get updated driver and software package
decompress and use it
Only Connect Usb to labtop now
Only now Turn printer/plug in printer now

I have the same problem. Just spent 2 days on phone with Brother techies who can't solve problem. All they want to do is load and unload the MFC program over and over.
