Can a chest freezer be used in an unheated garage

Can a chest freezer be used in an unheated garage where the temeprature falls below freezing for an extended period? The garage is insulated so it doesn't get as cold as outdoors but it does drop below freezing in January and February.

why not then when its down to zero shut the unit off and open the lid and free freezing...no electricity required....remember pop machines sit out in all types of weather
