Matshita Cd-rw Cw-8124 - problem writing to maxell

Just a guess. Your description says CD-RW which would suggest that it will not record to DVD. In fact a quick check of the spec for CW-8124 says it is a CD recorder/rewriter and DVD-Rom (i.e. player).
Apple did this for quite a long time, you only got the DVD recorder (Superdrive in Apple talk) in the more expensive models or in the build-to-order models.
Now you get DVD recording in all the models.
Easiest option is to buy an external recorder. (You could if you felt the urge, open the mini up and fit a new drive.)
