I tried to install internet explorer 8 but got an error before it was finished and it said it had to close down. Now I'm not able to send emails. I can receive them but can not reply, forward, send, highlight, copy or paste. What do I do to be able to send email? Please help. My ISP wasn't able to help me. They said it was the email software.
Thanking you in advance

- I have looked in my control panel, clicked on install/uninstall and can not find where I can uninstall it. It does not show up. I can not get anything to come up to uninstall it.

- Ok, I uninstalled Internet Explorer 8. I now have Internet Explorer 7 installed. I also have Internet Google Chrome...I am having trouble trying to click onto a URL that someone sends to me. I can't get anything to come up or either there is an error message. I've tried copy and pasting and that doesn't work. I'm able to send and recieve email and can search the web but I am not able to click onto websites that are sent to me. I'm thinking that these two installations maybe the trouble. I want to remove one of these but don't know which one and/or if it is the right thing to do. Thank you in advance for any help that anyone has for this old lady. :)

- When I click on a URL it either does not take me to it or if I actually get to the internet page the message would be 'page not found.' Usually it won't do anything if I click on the web address in my emails. I tried holding down the control key and clicking as you recommended to no avail but thanks for suggesting it. Yes,the line is broken on some of the URLs but not all. I am going to uninstall Chrome and let you know what happens. I really appreciate your help and would give you a 4 thumbs up but I have an error that says, "Done, but with errors on page." When I clicked on the error icon the message box appeared from Internet Explorer and it says,"Problems with this Webpage might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly."

- It doesn't even have to be a long URL that I can't click onto. Here is an example of an email that came from the Fixya Team: Dear varose, There is a new Comment for the {#problem} Problem you posted on FixYa.com. Click here to view this Comment, or you can find it in the problem thread on your profile page, under "My Problems". Regards, The FixYa Team There were three places highlighted in blue that I should be able to click onto in the email but nothing happens when I do. One is (#problem), two is 'click here' and three is 'profile' Also there is the Fixya icon at the left hand corner of the email that I should be able to click on and nothing happens. The little hand comes up but nothing else. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

- I do not get OPEN or OPEN IN NEW WINDOW when I right click the link. The window that pops up has a list that says; Copy Copy Shortcut Save Target As Save Picture As Save Background As Select All Add To Favorites Also, 1,4, and 5 were faded where I would not be able to click onto anyway. I am using Outlook Express if that makes any difference. Google came up immediately from here after I clicked on the link you sent. Four thumbs up for trying to help me. I still don't get anything when I click on there. The little hand comes up but that's it.

- Thanks again for trying to help me. I followed your steps to #13 where I was not able to click onto ok. A window came up that said: "File Types" The specified program could not be found. Make sure the file name and path are correct. I closed the File Type boxes. Do you have any other suggestions?

Sep 22, 2009

- I could not click on the 'fix it' download icon. When I did a message said 'could not find webpage'. When I finally clicked on the words of 'fix it for me' or 'fix this problem (can't remember which one I used)I was able to do every step except the 'action' one which contained the word 'none' in the box.

- Actually I had trouble with this at first. AFter several tries I was able to click onto the site. It fixed it! Thank you! Thank you! Most appreciated. :)

UN-install Explorer 8 ... Explorer 7 (or whatever the last one you had) will replace it.

CLICK {Start]
Go to the [Control Panel]
Select [Add or Remove Programs]
Scroll down the list to [Windows Internet Explorer 8] (near the bottom of the list) and highlight it.
Click the [Remove] button.

It will put Explorer 7 back.

Later, you can re-install IE8.

Hope this helps!

- va Rose ... not to worry...
What is the error message when you click a URL? 404?
Not really a problem if you keep both iExplorer 7 and Chrome...
But, in order to keep things simple and more support (for now) keep iE7 and lose Chrome.
I know, I will start getting hate mail ...lol...
Re-install Chrome in a few months...

Regarding the URLs:
Is the URL broken into more than one line?
Do you get a 404? (Not found - not your problem)
Try holding down the [Ctrl] key and click on URL.

- Thanks! ..
The broken URL's may not load properly for anyone else, either. The problem is not your computer. The very long URL's are tricky. You could copy the entire link as one and paste it in your browser (you said that didn't work)... try changing the font to a smaller one so that the url is one continuous string. .. It could be that the mesage is not an error... the webpage may not be available (not likely)... When you get a not available, then you were unable to copy/paste the entire link.

If it is urgent, you could copy the email and paste it into Word or WordPad... and go from there.

- If you right-click the link and select OPEN or OPEN IN NEW WINDOW...
Does the link open? error message??
Click here to see if Google loads...

- Outlook Express ... Look for a small message at the top or slightly above your email message.
Outlook has disabled links (for fear of bad things that may come from following the link).
Click this SOLUTION:
(You can have Microsoft fix it instead of follong the steps below - click on "SOLUTION" and click on "Fix it for me")
  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  3. In the Folder Options dialog box, click the File Types tab.
  4. In the Registered file types list, click (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol, and then click Advanced.
  5. In the Edit File Type dialog box, click Edit.

Important Make sure that you note the current values for the fields that are in this dialog box before you go to the next step. You may have to restore the values for the fields that you changed if this method does not resolve the issue.
  6. In the Action box, type open if it is not already there.
  7. In the Application used to perform action box, type "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome if it is not already there.
  8. Click to select the Use DDE check box if it is not already selected.
  9. In the DDE Message box, type "%1",,-1,0,,,, if it is not already there.
  10. In the Application box, type IExplore if it is not already there.
  11. Make sure that there is no value in the DDE Application Not Running box. If there is a value in this box, delete it.
  12. In the Topic box, type WWW_OpenURL if it is not already there.
  13. To close the Edit File Type dialog box, click OK two times.
  14. In the Registered file types list, locate and click (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy, and then click Advanced.
  15. Repeat steps 5 through 14 by using the (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy list item instead of the (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol list item.
  16. To close the Folder Options dialog box, click OK.
  17. Test a hyperlink from Outlook Express.
