no matter what i do my damn acer laptop modem will drop my conection....grr like it did just now.....its an In-Built Conexant Tylpe 1 modem.....Ive done scans i have reformatted everything.....troubleshooted for hours with my dial up carrier...i live in the boonies so nothing other than dial up...help me please

Who is your ISP?
If the thing works, I am not so sure your hardware is to blame, typically a hardware issue is at fault when it does NOT work, not when it 'sort of' works.
Intermittant issues are the exception to the rule, typically.
This could very well be the fault of your ISP.
Are you the only person using the line? Could someone be picking up the phone and dropping your connection?
If you post the type of Acer laptop you have and the type of modem this might help as well.
There is a freeware program called 'Everest Home Edition' that will help you determine your drivers and your hardware.
