Question about Crock Pots & Slow Cookers

2 Answers

Crock pot I have a crock pot that I have only used twice, bought it at my local walmart store. Both times it has gotten extremely hot on outside and made my counter top very hot, which if I would not have had it on a trivet it could have started a fire. The thermostat itself is set on hi or lo does the same thing and it takes forever for the food to get hot, I think I have a real problem and would like you to resolve it for me. I would like to have it replaced or I would like to have my money back. Please try to solve this problem before I burn my house down.Thank you, Lois Simon, Port Charlotte, Fl.

I HAVE THE WEST BEND SLOW COOKER MODEL NO. 84406. And the inside ceramic pot cracked last night and leaked. It is the 6 quart round white one. The color doesn't matter, I would like a replacement please. I am glad that I didn't get burned as this pot seems to get extremely hot an boils on the low setting. I love the pot though and it cooks well. Please inform me if it is dangerous to use because of the high heat that does not lower or adjust.

I have a Rival model;SCV551 for 1 year. I also noticed liquid BOILING on the 'LOW' setting. When I took out the ceramic insert I discovered a large CRACK down the center ceramic base and subsequent BURNT liquid that seeped through the ceramic & burned in the heating unit. This was cooking overnight, as I thought the low setting was...LOW! I discovered (while looking for replacement ceramic parts) several commentaries from various people stating the SAME PROBLEM; boiling on low setting and cracking of ceramic insert due to overheating! Where to from here?

Outside of crockpot gets very hot and countertop is extremely hot after cooking for a couple of hours

This sounds normal. put the unit on something to protect counter. It is very difficult to heat long term, without the unit becoming quite hot.

Rival crock pot

Yes, it's not unusual for the outside to be too hot to touch. A slow cooker won't get as hot as a bare burner on the stove, but it still gets hot enough to cook meat. The outside has a bit of insulation, but it still may get hot enough to cause pain, melt a bread bag, etc. Be sure and place it where no one will accidentally touch it.

31/2 Quart older model crock pot

I just recently got a crock Pot # 3100 in the almond color that someone had left at work many years ago and never picked up. They were going to throw it out. All 3 of the little plastic feet were broken off. I went to a local thrift store and found the same crock pot without the stoneware liner. The case was in perfect shape and still had all 3 plastic feet attached. I paid $2.00 for it and just recycled the old one that I had. I see these at thrift stores pretty frequently and have even seen the lids (glass and plastic) by themselves. If you are looking for replacement parts, Rival does not carry many parts for these older Crock Pots and your local thrift store is an excellent source.

Outside of Crock Pot Extremely Hot....Is This Normal?

This is not normal. Thermal switch is not functioning correctly. Wiring inside not easy to replace. Crock pots cause a lot of home fires. Cheaper to simply buy a new one.
