Question about Samsung RS2630SH Side by Side Refrigerator
Have a possible problem with my side by side freezer, the cooling side is working fine but the freezer section is not cooling sufficiently.
The problem was that this morning the temperature reading on the freezer was flashing at -18°C and everything defrosted inside. I noticed this problem but also notice that it did not beep like it usually does when the freezer door is open. I switched off the power and pulled out the cord thinking that it may just need to reset itself. Anyhow, I have since switiched it back on after 5mins, and have noticed that the temperature started off at 10° and has gone down to 7°C in about 2hrs.
I have spoken to a refrigeration mechanic who told me that some models have a function in them that switches to automatic defrost once the evaporator builds up with too much ice around it? dont know if that is the case with this model.
Would be great if someone could give some assistance who has some experience at working with these models and what could be the cause of the problem.
A couple of questions I have are: -
- how long should it generally take for the freezer to go from 10°C to -18°C?
- is that it true that the freezer switches to automatic defrost once the evaporator builds up with too much ice?
- what could be the cause of this problem? does either side of these samsung side by side fridges work independantly? it seems weird that the cooling section is working fine but the freezer section has an issue.
Anyhow any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just chuck your machine away samsung do not supply parts anymore

Hi there the fault you have is very common these units do automaticaly defrost to clear ice from the evaporator the problem that they have is when the defrost heater comes on it overheats and blows the safety thermal fuse resulting in the evaporator getting more and more iced up, to cure the fault you will need to replace the thermal fuse which has now been modified and the defrost sensor.
hope this is of some help

Tips for a great answer:
The compressor just keeps on running. The problem is weak
compressor. The refrigerant in the compressor is got low.The compressor
is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of
this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer
section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts
functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the
cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge
section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the
section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned
that freezer not cooling this indicates problem with compressor. When compressor
cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is
not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the
problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a
refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the
freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop
cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the
Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new
compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new
compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required
parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from
searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
