Question about Samsung RS2630SH Side by Side Refrigerator

Samsung RS22NJSH Freezer Fault

Have a possible problem with my side by side freezer, the cooling side is working fine but the freezer section is not cooling sufficiently.

The problem was that this morning the temperature reading on the freezer was flashing at -18°C and everything defrosted inside. I noticed this problem but also notice that it did not beep like it usually does when the freezer door is open. I switched off the power and pulled out the cord thinking that it may just need to reset itself. Anyhow, I have since switiched it back on after 5mins, and have noticed that the temperature started off at 10° and has gone down to 7°C in about 2hrs.

I have spoken to a refrigeration mechanic who told me that some models have a function in them that switches to automatic defrost once the evaporator builds up with too much ice around it? dont know if that is the case with this model.

Would be great if someone could give some assistance who has some experience at working with these models and what could be the cause of the problem.

A couple of questions I have are: -
- how long should it generally take for the freezer to go from 10°C to -18°C?
- is that it true that the freezer switches to automatic defrost once the evaporator builds up with too much ice?
- what could be the cause of this problem? does either side of these samsung side by side fridges work independantly? it seems weird that the cooling section is working fine but the freezer section has an issue.

Anyhow any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Samsung RS22NJSH Freezer Fault

Hi there the fault you have is very common these units do automaticaly defrost to clear ice from the evaporator the problem that they have is when the defrost heater comes on it overheats and blows the safety thermal fuse resulting in the evaporator getting more and more iced up, to cure the fault you will need to replace the thermal fuse which has now been modified and the defrost sensor.

hope this is of some help

If you have the door alarm continuously beeping you will need to try and hard reset the unit. Turn the circuit breaker for 4-5 minutes and retry the unit. But if still the 5 beeps are coming on, then its problem with control panel board. Its not detecting door closed.------- The control board needs to be inspected.---------- If the doors are not getting closed, that means some cold air is getting out and thts why temp is not getting set. This is one possibility of temperature problem.-------- But if both doors are closed tight and no issue of air getting lost out, then other possibility for this problem is weak compressor.-----------

The compressor just keeps on running. The problem is weak compressor. The refrigerant in the compressor is got low.The compressor is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned that freezer not cooling this indicates problem with compressor. When compressor cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Where does freon go?

If freezer is working the freon is fine. There is a air flow problem. Air has to circulate between the frig side and the freezer side to cool it.

Most side by side and other models of refrigerator freezer combinations are of one basic design. The freezer section does the cooling for both compartments. The refrigerator section gets it cold air from the freezer compartment. Therefore check for frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment. If frost is present there you have a defrost problem and it is cutting off the air that cools the refrigerator section.

I think this problem may already be resolved in some manor because of the date of post. Posts should expire after an unreasonable time period.

Does freezer cool like the cold food section? Did this suddenly happen, and frozen food began to thaw?  Most freezers control the cooling in the cold food section. The freezer must work fine before the cold food section will work fine. Let us know more, Thanks JT
