Problem for Sun OpenOffice

Good day. I have enjoyed OpenOffice

Good day. I have enjoyed OpenOffice Writer all this time and now looks like I'll have to return to Microsoft Office because of so many difficulties encountered alongthe way while I am trying to fix 1 problem and ending getting another. The problem is that I have written several documents in OpenOffice Writer for the sole purpose of it's simplicity (or so I had thought). In each document pages I have added several Hyperlinks that when clicked on, they open further documents, photos and or video clips. Once all this work was completed, I then had transferred it all in a master folder and then transferred it (again) to a portable hard drive connected to my computer via a USB cable. Once in the portable hard drive, I then opened it to check if everything was working as expected and it did. But when I had tried to connect the portable dribe to a friend's computer to show him my work and use the Hyperlinks to view other documents and or photos or videos, this all went well if each folder containing the said photos and videos was opened separately by double clicking on its folders, but it would not open the OpenOffice written pageswhen clicked on it's OpenOffice icon, an icon that shows something like 2 flying birds (V1.1), I mean it did open the pages as per OpenOffice Writer page but they were blank pages, whereas, in my computer, I have version 3.1, a different icon (less the 2 birds), it works fine, even when I open the portable hard drive it works fine, but when I open the hard drive connected on my friend's computer, as i said, everything opens except OpenOffice Writer only opens blank pages. I wonder where has the text gone. I downloaded OpenOffice Portable Apps from some site that is recognised by Sun into the portable hard drive and then went back to my friend's place to test it and it still did not open the documents in questions. That's why I said above I should just forget about it and go back to Microsoft Office, make a new documents or copy them in Word 2003, or open the Writer documents and use Save as... to save them in Word. I have no other option but it is tearing me apart trying to figure out a way to open OpenOffice documents I spent months working on and now I can't even open them on other computers via a portable hard drive connected to other computers with a USB. Is there a way I can resolve this once and for all, or is there no other way and just say: Go back to the trusty Word, because after 2 months of fiddling and fuming I have lost interest in OpenOffice. Can you offet some suggestions? Thanks. Mike

The problem is simple: the hyperlinks are pointing to documents on your "original" computer, rather than pointing to documents on your portable disk-drive, or to documents on the USB memory-stick.

So, on another computer, the hyperlink still is pointing to a file (on your computer) that no longer is accessible. Thus, only a "blank" page is being displayed.

Fix the hyperlink(s), and everything will be fine.

Hello,
Wait a second. You can install OpenOffice.org on USB key and run it from there. Download PotableApps Suite from PortableApps.com.
Hope it saves your work.
