I had a similar problem with my Zen Vision:M, whereby the computer just stopped recognizing my device. I found out it was because Windws has updated to Service Pack 3 automatically, and for some reason my player only works with SP2. It started working again when I installed SP2 again, but then I keep getting the annoying upgdate notifications from windows.
if you don't have the kind of charger that goes directly into the dock connector, the zen vision needs a 5V charger ( it happens to be compatible with the PSP charger). if you just plug it into a usb cord it will not charger. you may also need the little white adapter piece the goes into the dock connector. i know only one place that sells older creative zen accessories and repairs creative zen visions . if you have all of that: i assume you pressed the little reset button on the bottom, it may just be frozen? if that doesn't work and you are sure you're charging it right, your logic board is dead.
Usually this problem is due to the firmware. When the firmware is updated to version 1.62.02, this problem usually will be corrected. The older firmwares have problems in recognizing the battery and allowing the battery to power the unit.
You will need a wall/AC charger for the operation. Plug in the wall charger and USB cable at the same time. Your Zen should power on when connected to direct AC power via the wall charger. Once it is powered on, connect the USB cable to your computer. Then begin the firmware download.
If your Zen does not power on when connected to the wall charger, your unit is dead and its time to replace it or get the motherboard replaced via one of the Repair services offered on this website.
If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.
If that doesn't fix it trythe USB cable Screen Doesn’t come on anymore http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18859 If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."

There is a major bug in Firmware version 1.40.xx related to battery
charging, and it will exhibit this behavior if there is not enough
battery power available for your device to power up. You will need to
upgrade your firmware to fix this.
There is a catch, however - your player will not power up on USB power
alone, which poses a problem for firmware updating. You must obtain a
DC wall charger, plug it into the player via the dongle. This will
allow the device to turn on. Then you must plug into your computer's
USB port. Do not worry - having both a wall charger and USB cable
plugged in at the same time will not harm your player or your computer.
This will allow your ZVM to remain powered up so you can update the
I had a similar problem with my Zen Vision: M. I had let it sit for awhile and the battery lost all power. It wouldn't charge or connect to the computer. After fighting with customer support for a long time they agreed to have it shipped in for service.
I also was not able to find my receipt to send them. But I bought it at Circuit City and they are able to pull up any receipt for any purchase made with them. I suppose you could always try to try that with the retailer you purchased the device from.
Before you go to all that trouble though try these steps:
1. Connect the device to the wall charger.
2. Hold the power switch to ON.
3. Put a paper clip into the reset hole.
4. Continue holding the power switch on until the Creative logo appears.
5. Select Format All from the Recovery Mode menu. (Note: THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA FROM YOUR DEVICE! - but it's better than buying a new device)
6. When the reformatting is done, select Reboot from the Recovery Mode menu.
Let me know what the results are from this.
Have you only been attempting using a USB port to charge it? I just fixed my problem. I have a wall charger from the Creative Zen Touch that worked perfect on it when the USB didn't do a thing. Usually I'm able to charge it with my RAZR phone charger in the wall but that didn't work and neither did my computer charger via USB but I tried the old wall charger and it seemed to do the trick. If you don't have one, they have them on amazon, here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Zen-Vision-Travel-Charger/dp/B000GWLL0K/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-1441709-3982806?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185509740&sr=8-2
or for the old one that I have:
Hope this helps!
