Question about Computers & Internet

Internet Connection breaks

Hi, we have 2 DELL laptops connected to a NETGEAR rangemax wireless router in the same room. One of the laptops has a DELL & the other a NETGEAR wireless card. Things were going great for 2 months but the internet connection has started breaking since the last 1 week. Whenever we logon to any of the laptops, it doesnt detect the wireless connection on its own/automatically. After waiting for 10 - 15 minutes it automatically connects & remains sometimes for few minutes or for an hour or so but it keeps breaking. When connected the signal strength usually shows "very good" or "excellent". We have tried to reboot the laptop, remove all the plug ins & re connect but the problem persists. Please help.

My laptop only stays connected for 1 or 2 minutes then falls off to aquiring network. Signal strength says excellent. I fing no reset on the modem and have unplugged it several times for a minute then plugged back in. All the lights are lit green and solid on the modem. Have tried rebooting the laptop with no positive result. Problem has been going on for 5 days now.

I have the same problem. I have a U.S. Robotics wireless router, but the internet connection breaks off every 45 minutes to an hour. I unplug the router and plug it again and then it works fine for another 45 minutes. Why? How do I fix this?

    Thanks, Ana

Try to reset the router there should be a button underneath or at the back you will need to hold it in for 10 seconds maybe then unplug it then plug it back in see how you get on with that

These are some reasons why your new Hp laptop can't connect through your Netgear Router is because your Router has a security that used a password to connect to your router or the ip address of your desktop and Dell laptop is already setup to the router to work with internet.

You can learn how to setup your router easily.

Rangemax-internet only works when comp directly connected via LAN

it sounds like you have the wireless connection to the WAN disabled. Go through the wireless settings on the router and check to make sure it's not being blocked from the WAN/Internet connection.

Netgear Firewall

with the router connected, open Internet Explorer and type http://192.168.1.1 after you log in there is a option on the left for firewall and you can turn it off. If it were me I would use the routers firewall over a software firewall though. By the time a software firewall detects a hack, its already in the PC.
