if your computer shows a blue bar at the top of the screen and says www.dell.com you can try ctrl+f11 which will start the system restore sequence......hopefully you have one of the dells which containt this feature

Perhaps you are taking about a BIOS setting, to go back to factory reset?

If so, use f2 to get into setup then find the 'restore factory settings' option in the BIOS.

Let me know if I can help you any further. Dells are pretty good systems to work on, I am quite familiar with them if you need further assistance.

Factory settings? You mean, with pretty much everything wiped and have a fresh install of windows?

If you still have the operating system disk that came with it, it should be an easy fix.

Just insert the CD into the cd-rom. Restart the PC, and as it's booting up, it should say, "Press any key to boot from CD" and from there it will be a step by step procedure on re-installing Windows.

- they did it over the phone?

sounds to me you need something else then a factory reset...

You may talking about a system restore? Like, bring it back a date?

If you have no CD's, and the system "crashed" then you may be out of luck.

Since it "crashed" (meaning it doesn't want to boot and operate) then they couldn't connect via phone since you can't get online.

But my rating is locked, so I can't help any further

ha, i know exactly how to do it, since i used to be an dell network assistant for 3 years, but if your warranty on the computer is gone then it cost about $40 to troubleshoot it, but i will do it for alot cheaper and it will restore your computer as if you just got it. but knowing this, if you want the offer e-mail me at a1n0d8r6e1w@yahoo.com this restores and makes it brand new so any additional progs downloaded will be gone but original deletes will be reloaded into the system. this restore works for BSOD's (blue screen of death), bio failure, processor failure, and almost all other problems that the computer may have. after the troubleshoot, it will run and look like exactly the first day you bought it. which means this can also kill all viruses in the computer. i hope this info. helped. for more info, e-mail.
