My computer is acting very slowfor some reason, and the people at dell say it needs to be reset because they sent me a defective model but for some reason the idiots at dell hung up on me and wouldn't pick-up a "redial". So now I'm stuck with a laptop slower than molasses and I don't know how to reset it!

Want to reset to factory settings but it's not allowing me to do that I have the disk to reboot

  • Shelly altenhaus Apr 11, 2014

Go to safe mode start up. start restore and pick a date earlier than your problem. Dell usually has a service code that can be reached on their website for drivers.

Perhaps you are taking about a BIOS setting, to go back to factory reset?

If so, use f2 to get into setup then find the 'restore factory settings' option in the BIOS.

Let me know if I can help you any further. Dells are pretty good systems to work on, I am quite familiar with them if you need further assistance.

I get this error message when I turn on my computer... what should I do? Every time I press F8 and follow what it says it restarts and brings me back to the same error message:

A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
    IRQL_NOT_LOSS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacture for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advances start up option and then select safe mode.

Factory settings? You mean, with pretty much everything wiped and have a fresh install of windows?

If you still have the operating system disk that came with it, it should be an easy fix.

Just insert the CD into the cd-rom. Restart the PC, and as it's booting up, it should say, "Press any key to boot from CD" and from there it will be a step by step procedure on re-installing Windows.

they did it over the phone?

sounds to me you need something else then a factory reset...

You may talking about a system restore? Like, bring it back a date?

If you have no CD's, and the system "crashed" then you may be out of luck.

Since it "crashed" (meaning it doesn't want to boot and operate) then they couldn't connect via phone since you can't get online.

But my rating is locked, so I can't help any further

Ha, i know exactly how to do it, since i used to be an dell network assistant for 3 years, but if your warranty on the computer is gone then it cost about $40 to troubleshoot it, but i will do it for alot cheaper and it will restore your computer as if you just got it. but knowing this, if you want the offer e-mail me at a1n0d8r6e1w@yahoo.com this restores and makes it brand new so any additional progs downloaded will be gone but original deletes will be reloaded into the system. this restore works for BSOD's (blue screen of death), bio failure, processor failure, and almost all other problems that the computer may have. after the troubleshoot, it will run and look like exactly the first day you bought it. which means this can also kill all viruses in the computer. i hope this info. helped. for more info, e-mail.

Dell Dimension 1100 PC Desktop - restore to factory settings

if it comes with windows 7 or vista you can try and tap f8 until you get a boot menu and there should be an option to repair your computer, if it's windows xp you're kinda screwed unless you can access the recovery partition.

How do i restore my dell latitude c600 to its factory settings

The Dell Latitude C600 is an older Dell laptop computer. This particular model came with Windows XP pre-installed on it. If you are experiencing problems with your computer, or you want a fresh start with your Dell, you can restore the laptop to factory settings. This process removes all of the data saved on your computer and resets all of the settings back to the way they were when you first purchased the computer.

Instructions:

Step 1
Turn off your computer if it is currently on.
Step 2
Turn on your computer. When the Dell splash screen appears, hold down "CTRL" and "F11" on your keyboard. Release both keys at the same time.
Step 3
Click "Restore" in the "Dell PC Restore by Symantec" window. Click "Confirm" when you are warned that all data will be lost.
Step 4
Allow the system to restore and wait for the message that says "The system recovery process was successful." This can take about 8 to 10 minutes.
Step 5
Click the "Finish" button and your Dell Latitude D600 is restored to factory settings.
