POWER LIGHT FLASHES CONSTANTLY AND UNIT WILL NOT POWER ON ANYMORE. NONE OF THE BUTTONS RESPOND ANYMORE. UNIT HAD BEEN WORKING FINE AND THEN IT JUST DID THIS OUT OF THE BLUE.
Its a capacitor problem that is easily solved by a do-it-yourselfer. Google dvp642 and c316 (location of the cap on the board). A simple inspection will tell you if its bad and you can replace the cap out of Radio Shack for a couple bucks. Im doing it to a player right now...I have the bad capacitor out and just need the replacement. The bad cap will be bulged up on the top. It looks like a black barrel w/ an aluminum top. Its located on the main board that the power cable is attached to. You will find forums which describe the repair and replacement part in detail. Good luck!

This makes way more sense than the previous advice I received! I've already identified the capacitor and I think I can do this on my own. Thanks!!
