Question about M-Audio Mobilepre USB Bus-Powered Preamp and Audio Interface Sound Card

1 Answer

Recording Device I have a mobilepre usb preamp audio interface. I recently hooked it up to a new pc that uses windows vista. I am not able to get my recording program (Audacity) to record any sounds. My Preferences options say I need a recording device. The only way I can get it to work is by using the line in outlets on the front of the computer. This is causing a terrible sound quality when recording the microphone. With my old computer I used the USB cord to connect the PC to the MobilePre but I cannot get this one to read it through the USB cord. It seems like it only reads a line in. Please help if you can. thank you.

I did all that. I disconnected, installed drivers, restarted, and it will still only recognize a line in device. When I go to record and have the usb cord plugged in, my recording device field is always blank. When you say vista is unstable what exactly do you mean. I've got people saying its just as stable as any other program? Pleas hit me back with any extra info you may have. Thank you.

Pcs needs drivers, and vista is far from being completely stable..

Disconnect the mobile pre...and go here:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver&serie_ID=6&PID=8eb1a9920df341303f81bca7ff458be3&OS=45

then restart and connect.

Rock those beats, and keep me posted.

Vista is not a program, its an operating system, and a poorly written one that is a poor attempt at copying OS X ( known by everyone, varified by wikipedia ). Try testing your usb
cable, and you may have to choose it in your hardware manager. Your
computer may recognize the interface, but you may still need to choose
it, so that it is your primary I/O device. Also, if you have a machine
running vista, it is either a recent purchase, or your OS is. So either of them should offer tech support since the product is less than a year old, ( and 3 years late ). Also, you may want to contact M-Audio, as therein the equation aswell. I am only trying to help.

If you see the picture above, in my computer's system preferences, I utilize it and the 410 model. i just need to instruct the operating system as to which one i am using. It takes a matter of seconds. Not only am I a user, but a vendor as well, and have become familiar with M-Audio compatibility issues. But i promise you, the first thing they will ask you is if you have the proper drivers loaded...

And if you're using a known working USB cable..

    Keep me posted.

Nothing happens when plugged in to my laptop

This could be a number of things, lets go over the most likely.
-It is possible if you have an older laptop that you have USB 1.1 ports instead of the needed USB 2.0 port required to provide the device power. (If it has a separate "optional" power supply, use it.) Or all of the USB 2.0 ports are being used. Try unplugging all of your USB devices except for the interface and try it in different ports.
-If this isn't a problem and you have free and powered USB 2.0 ports then the next most likely culprit is bad drivers. Try uninstalling the drivers for the device (if you've installed them) and downloading the newest drivers from the M-Audio web-site and installing those.
Great choice of gear, I use quite a bit of M-Audio equipment myself and it's good quality for a good price...
Hope this helps. Thank you.

Mobilepre usb and windows vista are non-compatible

There should be a Vista driver available for your device at the M-Audio support website.

M-Audio Pre USB

I guess your output is leaking and you are recording it again to the track.
Try recording with lower output volume. :)
