Re: power problems

Is it hooked into a Power Bar? Try a different outlet. Either the PS3 isn't getting enough power or your internal/external (slim only) Power Supply is dead.

The PS3 works fine but freezes in career mode of MLB 10 The Show. Is this also an over heating issue?

It doesn't sound like an overheating issue, more of either a disc read issue or firmware issue.

Please try my following tip for re-installing the firmware. If this does not fix it then try cleaning the laser lens.

Failing that, if it is an overheating problem usually it will tell you with an onscreen prompt or shut down with a flashing yellow light

Step 1.

Turn your Playstation 3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2.

Press and hold the power button. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off back into standby mode (red light on). You must now release the power button.

Step 3.

Press and hold the power again. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later then there will be 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 quick beeps release the power button.

Step 4.

Your Playstation 3 will now start up with a screen asking you to connect a controller via USB. Connect your controller and then press the PS button.

Step 5.

A menu will now be displayed on screen. Select option 3 "Restore File System". This will then ask you to confirm that you wish to go ahead with the system restore. Accept whatever the Playstation 3 says

Hopefully this will cure the problem on its own.

Hope this helps

My playstation 2 powers on for about a minute then shuts itself down and the light on the power button starts blinking. tried multiple discs in the unit and does the same with all of them.

Sounds like there is an issue with your power supply. Try replacing the plug that goes to your PS2 Slim. If this doesn't work, then it's an internal problem and your best bet is to contact the Playstation company

My playstation just shut off an the red light flashes

do you get a yellow light? i bet you do..

1)Turn off your playstation 3. If you think your ps3 has been caught by the heat, then wait at least 20 minutes and put it back on again
2) Check if there's any loose cable.
3) Try to put out your playstation's hard-drive, and put it back in. You might want to repeat this 2-3 times for better results.

If this did not work
Send your playstation back to Sony

When i turn on my ps3, it tells me it wasn't shut down properly and must turn it off again or else it shut downs by itself.

You can also try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as
well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with
your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

I wish you good luck.

Playstation 2 console

Hi Ron, To the best of my Troubleshooting knowledge on the Slim, this sounds like a Temperature problem. Do not lay the Slim on the carpet when playing and try not to keep it in sunlight. It will last you much longer to shut it off when not using it. Let it cool off and try it again. If dust is the culprit, you will need to disassemble the Slim and clean it out, mainly the fan. The Slims fan is very succeptable to dust accumulation.
