SONY WEGA KV27FS120 WON'T TURN ON, LED BLINKS A FEW TIMES

My set is only 2 yrs old, it worked fine, but one day just won't turn on, I don't feel any magnetic force on the screen, the led blinks a few times, but will not turn on, what's wrong?

I have a KV-24FS100 with the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

We are now having the same problem as above with our Sony Trinitron KV-24fs100 TV, please let me know what we should do. I didnt know if it was something easy to change out or if we should take it some where to get fixed if in fact it is fix able. Thanks

My Sony is a KP-51WS520. Over the past week, I noticed that it would take a couple of tries to turn it on. I thought that it was just "operator error" or that maybe the switch wasn't connecting somehow, but it didn't matter if you used the remote or manually pushed the button, so I decided it must be something else...Now, the set won't turn on regardless of how many tries with the button/remote, so it's pretty much a useless, oversized paperweight. I called Sony, who in turn told me to call Sears (where it was purchased). Sears told me to call Sony. There is no longer any type of TV repair shop in our town (which happens to be an island of Alaska). The closest one that the kid at Sears knew of was in Juneau. I can only imagine how expensive it would be to crate and barge it for repair.

One thing that Sony did ask was how many times did the light blink -- NINE times...Does that mean anything to anone??? I read a comment regarding the same type of problem and it was mentioned that a fuse may need to be replaced and to also try unplugging the set for a full four hours. I'm going to try this, but have my doubts.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We have had the same exact problem.  But once in a while it switches on, and we try to leave the TV on with input set to Video instead of TV (so there is no picture only the green indicator on the screen).  Turn it off and it's the same ordeal - varies with the phase of the moon or something.

LG 42 Plasma WON'T TURN ON, LED BLINKS A FEW TIMES problem, and notify you when a new solution is offered.

Same problem here. Sony 42" Wega cost $1800 4 years ago and now it will not turn on. I have been able to get it to work after pressing the button several times and unplugging the set. Other times I just go to the other room and watch my 19" TV that is about 20 years old and probably cost $100 bucks. So much for buying a Sony....never again! This isn't my first problem with this set. Last time I had a problem, I called the Sony customer service. It was only about two years old and the girl on the phone asked if I bought an extended warranty! NO I bought a Sony! I paid a lot more for what I thought to be a quality set. If I wanted to buy an extended warranty I would have bought the RCA for hundreds less.

I've tried the solutions as outlined in the post and nothing works. Not sure what to do next:( Any suggestions?

I have a 3 year old WEGA (36"), with the same problem.

  • tpitaylor Nov 05, 2008

Puch the ON button, either on the set or the remote, it stays on for about 4 seconds, then turns off. The TIMER light to the left of the ON/OFF switch is blinking. Tells me that somehow, the SLEEP timer is set to about 4 seconds. Set turns off before I can GET A SCREEN, MENU, etc., to RESET the timer. IF this is the problem, is there a general RESET for the machine, that would get me out of the Catch 22...

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I sure hope it will. I had a similar problem with TWO of the three Sony 24" TVs I had bought together. TV#1 konked out a month ago; TV#2 messed up last week. So I called the Sony Service Center, and this very nice guy told me that a lot of times this problem occurs because the TV isn't plugged directly into the wall (most people plug theirs into a power strip/surge protector). When it happened to TV1, we hadn't been using TV2 so we just traded their locations and the "bad" one sat there waiting to be thrown out...and sat and sat and sat. Well, I was pretty hot when it happened again a month later to TV2. The service center guy told me to unplug TV2 and replug it in the wall after about 1 minute and turn it on. Nothing happened. Then he told me to plug in TV1 and turn it on. I did, reluctantly. And it actually worked!! I don't know if anyone having this problem has a week to be without their TV, but the guy said sometimes it takes up to a week of sitting to get it to work right again. So I'm waiting a few more days before I try to plug in TV2 to see if it works again, but for now, at least I've got one TV back. Here's hoping you all have the same experience. And then I guess we'll have to decide whether to plug back into a power strip (mine was actually plugged into my cable TV's DVR machine) or into the wall.

Search for Sony blink codes- the number of times the LED flashes, may even indicate where in the set the problem lies. This is diagnostic device to help qualifie ppl, carry out repair.
In other words flashing power led can indicate almost any problem, it is not a fault, in itself.
The service manual , not the owners manual would tell you which section is at fault, based on the number of blinks. These are model specific.

I have the same problem for a month. Now TV does not want to turn on at all - indicator repeatedly blinking for 9 times. Sony documentation provide rediculous clue - turn on TV.
Idiots this problem happens when I try to turn it on.
Sony Tech support team has only one solution: plug off and in a minute- plug in, try turn on. Does not work...
If turned on, TV working perfectly.
I paid for the 36'' VEGA trinitron 3.5 years ago $1070 with hope SONY is best one. Wrong - I have problems with SONY equipment more than with any other company.
It is SONY obligation to recall product with such fault.
Can you help.

My set did not come on today when I sat down to watch. Turned on power from remote and nothing. Saw the seven red flashing led lights and decided to check on line. One solution was to put a hair dryer at the power supply. Tried this but nothing happened. Unplugged it and let it set and re-plugged it in after sitting awhile. Still nothing. But the third time proved to be the charm!! Removed tv from the stand, and relocated to the curb outside my house. Never even had to plug it in again and like magic, after about 90 minutes my problem was gone!

I read about plugging it directly into the wall, instead of a power bar, and it worked...this was the second time this happened to my Sony, the first time let it sit a bit, turned off the power bar, played around with plugs and it finally came back...
Hope this helps anyone else.

Hello, I had the Same problem with the failed start up and the power cut out. The green flashing light, then the orange, then the red (3) Three Times. This all started when I hooked up my Computer to the Sony KF-60we610, TV to Watch a movie. The Computer when Hooked/Linked up by S Video, I think Interrupted the Start up sequence and then could not initialize. Thus the 3 red lights and the powering down of the fan. I Unplugged my Sony KF-60we610, TV from the power Surge bar for about an hour, then re-plugged it again in the wall outlet. I Turned the TV on again by pressing the button on the TV and then Pressed the reset button on the remote and it re- initialized. Like Magic, It went on. Thank you for your post, I hope this helps because I used these posts to help me.

I found out if you push the power button an odd number of times wait a couple of seconds and do it again it will eventually turn on,but it might take awhile.

My Sony wega tv won't turn on goes into standby red light blinks 10 times then shuts off?

Look at the owner manual as the 10 blinks is a error code or Google the model number to locate that information--Sony error codes are general and often misleading.

I would if looking at the set inspect the lamp first.

I have a sony TV model KV-28ls36u, the problem was, when power is turned-ON, the LED blinks 11 times, what would be the best solution for this and where can I get a service Manual. Please help. Thanks

usually after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to tube ) becomes weak - then TV won't get ON.. means no picture no sound but LED blinks - in some TVs along with EHT 1 or 2 components like resistor, transistors, etc will also gets deffective - so solution is TV circuit board has to be checked to find whether only EHT is deffective or other components are also deffective - price of EHT will be between Rs.250 to Rs.600 - iam service engineer (computers, laptops, printers, etc) - bangalore - domlur - 09986222774 - sathyavijayasarathibabu@ymail.com - if you are in bangalore then you can call me for service
