My set is only 2 yrs old, it worked fine, but one day just won't turn on, I don't feel any magnetic force on the screen, the led blinks a few times, but will not turn on, what's wrong?

I have a KV-24FS100 with the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

We are now having the same problem as above with our Sony Trinitron KV-24fs100 TV, please let me know what we should do. I didnt know if it was something easy to change out or if we should take it some where to get fixed if in fact it is fix able. Thanks

-   Puch the ON button, either on the set or the remote, it stays on for about 4 seconds, then turns off. The TIMER light to the left of the ON/OFF switch is blinking. Tells me that somehow, the SLEEP timer is set to about 4 seconds. Set turns off before I can GET A SCREEN, MENU, etc., to RESET the timer. IF this is the problem, is there a general RESET for the machine, that would get me out of the Catch 22... -   tpitaylor

I have the same problem for a month. Now TV does not want to turn on at all - indicator repeatedly blinking for 9 times. Sony documentation provide rediculous clue - turn on TV.
Idiots this problem happens when I try to turn it on.
Sony Tech support team has only one solution: plug off and in a minute- plug in, try turn on. Does not work...
If turned on, TV working perfectly.
I paid for the 36'' VEGA trinitron 3.5 years ago $1070 with hope SONY is best one. Wrong - I have problems with SONY equipment more than with any other company.
It is SONY obligation to recall product with such fault.
Can you help.

I read about plugging it directly into the wall, instead of a power bar, and it worked...this was the second time this happened to my Sony, the first time let it sit a bit, turned off the power bar, played around with plugs and it finally came back...
Hope this helps anyone else.

Search for Sony blink codes- the number of times the LED flashes, may even indicate where in the set the problem lies. This is diagnostic device to help qualifie ppl, carry out repair.
In other words flashing power led can indicate almost any problem, it is not a fault, in itself.
The service manual , not the owners manual would tell you which section is at fault, based on the number of blinks. These are model specific.

Turn on Sony WEGA and instead of turning on it goes to standby (red blinking light).

Any help would be tremendous!

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I sure hope it will. I had a similar problem with TWO of the three Sony 24" TVs I had bought together. TV#1 konked out a month ago; TV#2 messed up last week. So I called the Sony Service Center, and this very nice guy told me that a lot of times this problem occurs because the TV isn't plugged directly into the wall (most people plug theirs into a power strip/surge protector). When it happened to TV1, we hadn't been using TV2 so we just traded their locations and the "bad" one sat there waiting to be thrown out...and sat and sat and sat. Well, I was pretty hot when it happened again a month later to TV2. The service center guy told me to unplug TV2 and replug it in the wall after about 1 minute and turn it on. Nothing happened. Then he told me to plug in TV1 and turn it on. I did, reluctantly. And it actually worked!! I don't know if anyone having this problem has a week to be without their TV, but the guy said sometimes it takes up to a week of sitting to get it to work right again. So I'm waiting a few more days before I try to plug in TV2 to see if it works again, but for now, at least I've got one TV back. Here's hoping you all have the same experience. And then I guess we'll have to decide whether to plug back into a power strip (mine was actually plugged into my cable TV's DVR machine) or into the wall.

Same problem here. Sony 42" Wega cost $1800 4 years ago and now it will not turn on. I have been able to get it to work after pressing the button several times and unplugging the set. Other times I just go to the other room and watch my 19" TV that is about 20 years old and probably cost $100 bucks. So much for buying a Sony....never again! This isn't my first problem with this set. Last time I had a problem, I called the Sony customer service. It was only about two years old and the girl on the phone asked if I bought an extended warranty! NO I bought a Sony! I paid a lot more for what I thought to be a quality set. If I wanted to buy an extended warranty I would have bought the RCA for hundreds less.

We have had the same exact problem.  But once in a while it switches on, and we try to leave the TV on with input set to Video instead of TV (so there is no picture only the green indicator on the screen).  Turn it off and it's the same ordeal - varies with the phase of the moon or something.

My Sony is a KP-51WS520. Over the past week, I noticed that it would take a couple of tries to turn it on. I thought that it was just "operator error" or that maybe the switch wasn't connecting somehow, but it didn't matter if you used the remote or manually pushed the button, so I decided it must be something else...Now, the set won't turn on regardless of how many tries with the button/remote, so it's pretty much a useless, oversized paperweight. I called Sony, who in turn told me to call Sears (where it was purchased). Sears told me to call Sony. There is no longer any type of TV repair shop in our town (which happens to be an island of Alaska). The closest one that the kid at Sears knew of was in Juneau. I can only imagine how expensive it would be to crate and barge it for repair.
One thing that Sony did ask was how many times did the light blink -- NINE times...Does that mean anything to anone??? I read a comment regarding the same type of problem and it was mentioned that a fuse may need to be replaced and to also try unplugging the set for a full four hours. I'm going to try this, but have my doubts.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
