Question about GE WDSR2080D Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Water continues to fill

I have a GE washing machine (model WDSR2080D) that is less then a year old and a little stream of water runs even with nothing selected. When the washing machine is spinning, you can hear the water still running. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

After additional research, it appears that it is a "Faulty Water Inlet Valve". So, how do I fix and/or replace that?

I went ahead and took the control panel off to find the inlet valve. I can say that it is the cold side solenoid based on this: I turned the water off, unhooked the cold water hose from the washing machine and stuck in into the basin. I turned the water on and there was no water coming from the washing machine, just the cold water hose. No continous running of water! So, I can't replace just the bad solenoid, I have to buy a brand new inlet valve ($54.95 on GE's website). Do you think that the test I ran was enough to eliminate any other problems that may exist? Thank you!

I did some searching and found that part on eBay for $25 (brand new, same model #) and on a couple of other sites for less then GE's $55. Thanks for the help. I work with networks and told several of my clients and co-workers about this site. Outstanding job. Happy Holidays!!

When the water is entering the tub it immediately goes out the outflow. The tub will not even fill up a little bit. What could be the problem? thanks

The drain hose outlet must be located higher that any expected water level in the tub. If too low, gravity drains the tub as it is filled. Extend the (a) drain pipe up to the proper level, even if you are using a floor drain to carry away the water. Hope this helps!

My GE washing machine drains the water after the rinse cycle but does not start spinning. It just sits with the water pump running and does nothing. This doesn't happen with every load but seems to be...

Most likely the tube from the tub to the water level switch is full of "gunk" so the washer still thinks there is water in the machine, and therefore will not spin. Take the front panel off by pushing in the retaining clips at the top seam between the front panel and the washer top. Pull the thin hose off the left side of the tub and clean it out. (or cut off an inch or so, but you can only get away with that once or twice). To help prevent re-occurance, every two or three months you can fill the washer to the lowest level with hot water and several cups of bleach (no clothes) and run it through a cycle. Rinse at the ex-large setting to make sure all traces of bleach are gone before doing another load of laundry.

Water dose ot stop when washer is full. It continues to run.

If you disconnected power and water still flowed, replace the water valve. If water stopped flowing when power was disconnected, clean out tube from tub to water level switch.

Floods overflow tube when pressure hose plugs at outer tub

I usually see this problem from people who rarely or never use liquid bleach. To prevent recurrence, fill washer to lowest water level, hottest water, with several cups of liquid bleach, and run a complete cycle with no clothes. Do this once every couple months if you are in an area of the country with water conditions which seem to encourage the formation of the gunk that clogs that water level tube you mentioned. Sometimes switching to a different type or soap, fabric softener, or reducing the amounts of those will also help greatly. This should be a FixYa for your problem.

Washer continues to fill after full, then spills all over floor until manual shut off

This is an indication of a pressure switch malfunction. Post back with your washer brand name and model number and I can tell you how to check it.
