Question about Acer TravelMate 8204WLMi Notebook

1 Answer

Media stuttering and windows startup failure

  1. Ever since I have owned the laptop windows has had trouble launching properly - After logging in to windows there is no welcoming sound and the background then loads with no toolbar or icons, just an empty screen. This does not happen everytime but does occur regularly.
  2. When playing media the audio and video slows down and stutters, especially if the computer is loading other processes at the same time. This problem coincided with me running very low on disc space. I have now transferred data to a different hard drive but I am still suffering with the same problem. I have also done a disc clean up and reduced the number of processes that launch on start up but all to no avail.

Re: Media stuttering and windows startup failure

Hye les_dudis,

How long have you owned this system? Some quick fixes you could try. You have too many services starting up on startup.

Go to Start, Run, and type in msconfig.

Go to the far right tap (startup), disable all, except for your anti-virus. (norton, mcafee) It'll be obvious which one is your antivirus.

Restart, and see if that helps out. If not, try do a system defragmentation.

Start, All programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmentor. This cleans up your hard drive a bit.

If in the end, these don't help, then if you still have the windows CD, I suggest backing up your info, and swiping the hard drive and installing a fresh windows.

Hope it helps,

Launch manager is a piece of software you need to install.
If you don't already own it, then search for it in Google. If it is for corporate use, then contact your IT department or follow the standard procedure for getting the software installed.

When I turn on my laptop it goes to a windows error recovery page and gives me the options to launch startup repair or start windows normally. When I launch the startup repair my screen goes black and only...

Sounds like the Windows Recovery Partition is corrupted or your hard drive may be faulty.

But, first try to boot your system in Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly as it boots) and choose Safe Mode or Last Known Good.

If it still doesn't boot properly, try the diagnostics to determine if a hardware problem - boot your system and press F 12 (or F2) repeatedly.

Hope this helps.

CineDashMediaConsole.volume not working.

Cinedash FIX for Windows 7
This works to fix the CineDash Media Console!
I had the same problem with my Aspire 8920G
Now it works fine.
Getting the CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons working
If you have problems with either the CineDash Media Console or Launch buttons then you will be happy to hear that the solution for fixing these is easy!
The first thing that you will need to do is install the “Launch Manager” which can be downloaded off the Acer website. Go to and click the service support, then driver download. Go to your model. Download the Launch Manager on the acer site. The filename should be “Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32×64_XPx32×” the version of Launch Manager under the Windows Vista operating system .This will get the Email, Web and Empowering Technology buttons working with their default settings. If you need to change what the buttons do, you can launch the application named “Launch Manager” in the start menu.
Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager
The solution to my problem was to get the Launch Manager to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Unzip. Explore the new folder and right-click Setup.exe.
To do this go to the Launch Manager Install directory (C:\Program Files\Launch Manager ), right-click on “setup.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install. But don’t reboot yet!
Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in your program files directory – (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager or C:\Program Files\Launch Manager depending on if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit)
right-click on “LManager.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install.
Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons.

At startup : PXE-E16 : Media test failure,

Sounds like a disk failure. I use a product called Spinrite that has more times than not brought disk backonline. If it is a hardware (controller board) failure you are looking at getting a new disk. Spinrite is alittle pricey but well worth it if you own multiple PC. It helps with disk health as well.

If you see the disk in Bios I would give spinrite a chance to recover sector.

Media Stuttering

Run your disk defrag after taking off your files. Also, get more ram so the machine doesn't use the hard drive for virtual memory as much.
