I believe the agitator belt needs to be replaced.
Easy fix. Make sure the unit is unplugged!
Undo the screws near around the control panel, disconnect the wiring harness(s) slide the exterior shell out. Twist the belt away from the pullies tp remove it. Inspect the pullies to make sure they are properly connected and tight on the shaft. Clean the pullies to remove any belt dust, etc. Replace with fresh belt. Put it all back together and it should be good to go.

You need to pull the agitator up and see if it's inner teeth have been worn smooth or something broken where it engages the steel shaft from the transmission. If everything looks okay then I am afraid it could be a bad transmission.
