Re: laptop hp DV2214 model

There appear to be three models of this machine -- if you can determine which one you have this link should leave you two clicks from the XP drivers for your machine.

Hi i have hp pavilion dv6500 vista i changed it to windows xp and now i cant play any sound there is no sound device

When you are going from vista back to xp windows it is hard to find the supported device drivers. The only thing I can suggest is go to to see if they support xp audio driver, failing that do a google search for your make and model to see if somebody has come up with a solution.

Audio is not working on compacq presario c738tu note book earlier windows vista op changed over to windows xp op.

On HPs web site you will find the driver that you need to install to replace the old drive for vista

When you select the model of your lap top it will come up saying windows vista or XP and make sure that you select XP so that you insure proper installation of the driver

Audio device are not installed in vista

go to HP Support Drivers and fill in the model number or service tag and it will take you to the drivers page. Without the drivers installed the audio will not initialize.

Need Drivers

Have you downloaded the Xp sofware update from the Compaq website? Maybe it contains the extra drivers?  If you know which audio chip(From manual, also downloadable for below) you could go to their website for the audio driver.〈=en&product=3752689

Looking to buy a new laptop

Many places are now offering a choice between XP and Vista for their machines. They are finding that Vista only has taken a bite out of their sales. If you find the machine you want, but it's not offered with XP, you can change the operating system fairly easy. Just about all the major manufacturers are offering drivers for XP at their support sites. They too have figured out that Vista isn't quite what they said it was, and now know it was a mistake not to offer the drivers. In my opinion as far as offering equal support for both XP and Vista for their machines, Dell is on top and by far the easiest to use, then IBM/Lenovo, Gateway, Toshiba, Sony, then Acer. HP/Compaq still has their head up their ***. You can find drivers for XP if you know the make and model of the components, ie... sound card, video card, and wireless card, if you don't know the make and model you will have to take the machine apart to get them. You will not be able to find the drivers at HP's support site, because if the machine was designed for Vista, then only Vista drivers will be found there. Not to mention that they have the most fragile motherboard on the market.
So, let's recap, BUY a: Dell, IBM/Lenovo, Toshiba, Gateway, Sony, Acer is cheaply made and has a few bugs, especially with their web cam, so think twice, and DO NOT buy an HP/Compaq. Hope this helps and happy shopping!!!

Presario f700 drivers

You have to download XP drivers from the manufacturer's website. This normally happens because your harware was designed for the new OS(Vista).

Just go to and search for the model of your Laptop.
