I have the same problem. When I try to copy a document, the printer displays an error message "Toner is not set.....Insert toner". I have removed and re-inserted the toner cartridge, and shut off and turned on the printer to reinitialize it -- neither action corrected the problem. I payed a visit to the local Staples store where I bought the printer and several print cartridges (over time), and found that their display printer had the same problem (same message). The store rep tried the same action described above with no success. We also tried using my cartridge in the display printer and no success. He thought that there may be a contact problem with our printers and felt that Canon may need to repair the printers. I tried cleaning the contact points on the print cartridge and inside the printer, but again, no success. At this point, unless Canon or someone knows a solution to this problem, I plan to buy another printer.

I have the same problem it says "toner is not set" and I tried numerous times replacing the toner but nothing works. The last time I took the toner out, I found a little spring but I am not sure where it is from or what to do with it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have tried the "remove and replace paper" method as many different ways as I could figure to do. Nothing has worked. I downloaded the Firmware Update. Instructions say "error" (red LED) is to be off, etc. Nothing I try will get it to turn off. And, it appears from the description in the instructions that all the Update does is change the error message. What good is that? But, my solution turns out to be simple: I bought the 2-year replacement plan, and Office Max is replacing it since I'm within the 2-years.

Solution from Canon Support & Service follows. Found that it works. The key was removing the paper from the cassette tray.
1. Remove paper from cassette tray before replacing the Toner Cartridge-ICMF 4150
2. Install the Toner Cartridge-ICMF 4150

Bless you good folks. I found this website late this evening, and removing the paper and then reinserting the cartridge worked like a charm. Otherwise, I felt like I was going to go medieval on this printer. But, you know, my scanner still really sucks. But, at least it prints. Arya

Error light flashing. Scren prompts set paper again, set toner again. Have installed new cartridge?

Hmm that is very bad indeed. Have you tried simply unplugging the printer from the power source for at least 10 minutes, then replugging it in to see if the errors persist? These errors just came out of the blue one day, nothing changed or happened to the machine? No power surges / outages or anything like that?

Thanks
Tim

I had the same problem with this printer. And I think I got the problem solved by removing the all paper from the paper tray, and re-inserting the toner cartridge. I think it is the problem with incorrect error message from Canon's printer. It is problem of paper being fed into the printer mechanism slightly.

Toner not set insert toner message

The problem is with the paper tray not the toner, believe it or not. Take all of the paper out of the tray and then reinsert the paper into the tray. It should then work fine.

Yes. Exchange it while you can. It will more difficult after the first 30 days. Could be a toner cartridge not seated properly. Or could be a high voltage power supply.
