Dishwasher problem Hi there. The upper shelf in my dishwasher doesn't seem to clean, but the lower shelf does. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the arm or the incoming water supply. How would I check? Thanks. -Liz S.

Yes, it lines up fine. The arm doesn't turn during the wash cycle but I don't know how to troubleshoot from there.

If the upper arm is'nt moving then there is no water being pushed out of the arm which means that you have a motor problem and will need it replaced sorry

I'm sure the problem has been solved by now, but I have had this problem. The upper arm has no motor turning it. Water from the lower unit jets up into the arm and is forced out the tips of the arms in angled jets that cause the arm to rotate. If food scraps get caught in the jets, no water can get out and there is no action causing the arm to turn. (I found watermelon seeds in mine.) It is usually easy to remove the arm and clean out the tips.

Dishes are not getting clean. Dishwasher does not take off the smallest speck of food. Hot water works. Cycles sound the same

There could be a couple of things that might be affecting the cleaning ability of your dishwasher.
First, there is a pipe/tube that runs up the back of the inside of your dishwasher. This provides water for the top spray arm. The spray arm has a feeder tube that covers the pipe in the back. If for some reason the feeder tube has come dislodged, the water just drips back down into the dishwasher, never touching your upper shelf. My children used to put large items into the lower shelf and in so doing, would dislodge the upper spray arm feeder tube. Just pull out the upper shelf and check to see that the tube is in the correct position. This should solve the problem.

If not, it could be that the upper or lower spray arms may have debris that keeps the water from being forced through the jets. You'll need to flush the arm with the spray attachment on your kitchen sink. I sometimes use tweezers or a toothpick to dislodge bits of peelings, paper, or bone that manage to get into the sprayer arm.
I hope one of these tips helps. If it does, please come back to fixya and rate my answer.

My LG dishwasher soap dispenser does not empty entirely and leaves a residue on the door. It also doesn't seem to be cleaning as well as when it was new. It's about 2 years old. I was using a gel...

Make sure you're not loading the dishwasher with large items close to the soap dispenser. These can block the action of the dispenser door. Also, be sure the water temperature is 140 degrees for the best cleaning efficiency.
Another thing may be that your spray arm jets are clogged.
Depending on the model, the lower spray arm generally has a nut or thumb/butterfly screw (plastic) that you remove and then lift the spray arm off. I always soak mine in hot soapy water and then flush with hot water. If debris such as pieces of paper, bone, peelings are in there, you'll need to take a tweezer or toothpick to remove them from the jets. The upper spray arm usually has the same apparatus and you can follow the same procedure.
The upper spray arm receives water pressure from a tube that runs up the back of the machine on the inside. If the connection has been knocked out of line, the water can't flow through the tube to the spray arm. My kids used to knock ours loose when they loaded the lower shelf. Pull out the top shelf and see if the plastic connectors are in place. If not, snap them back on the shelf supports and this should align the tubes.
One more thing: the bottom of the door..on the INSIDE of the machine. It's amazing how much "gunk" settles and accumulates under there. I use an old toothbrush, moistened in soapy water to scrub the underside of the door. Then pour hot water on the area. Next run a regular cycle with NO items in washer and use 1/2 cup white vinegar...no detergent.
I hope these suggestions help your problem. If so please come back to Fixya and rate my advice!

Not sure if upper spray arm is working. Dishes on top shelf remain dirty. Lower arm works early in cycle but not top. Are they supposed to be working at the same time?

Something is blocking the extender from getting to top spayer arm. Push all drawers in and look to see if extender can be manually raised to arm. Slug buildup can effect a dishwasher also. clean with bleach and water. Pour bleach in the washer and run thru one cycle.
