"my windows cannot detect the harddrive of my computer"

actually I want to format my desktop computer,I insert my windows XP installer into my cdrom, so I set the cdrom as my first boot then on the windows set up in the blue background theres a button there that says start set up, repair and cancel, then after I click start set up it says "windows cannot find any harddisk drive installed on this computer'', but when I normally start my computer I can go through the desktop, maybe theres something that I will change on cmos or bios setting, my motherboard is ECS and my harddrive is SATA,. pls help me how to detect my harddrive where exactly I will change in the bios setting?...thanks a lot!god bless!
