Won't let me add music

My insignia player won't let me add music. i formated it and now it gives me an error every time i try to copy music into it. it says "the device was either disconected or has stoped responding". i formated it before so this shouldn't be the problem. i don't know what to do. if anybody has an answer to this please write to me at matis_camelia@yahoo.com

For the Insignia NS-DA1G, NS-DA2G, KIX, NS-DV2G, NS-DV4G:

These units come set to a FAT formatting. If you have changed this to NTFS or DOS, you will cause problems with your player. Be sure it is formatted correctly.

If you have formatted your player to FAT (recommended), FAT-16, or FAT-32, try using the software reset in the MENU - Settings area of the players internal software.

Hi,
First of all formate your MP3 player through built-in format option of the player, remember dont try to format it through PC. then by using software provided with the MP3 copy songs of your choice and past in your player with the help of software, also don't copy and paste directly from PC to MP3.
This will solve your problem.
Thanks for using fixya.

Everything is now "unknown"

Still can't explain the unknown status of all the files on the device, but I turned the device off for several minutes and when I returned it had zeroed out leaving an empty device ready to reload anything I wanted. I guess I initially cycled it off and on too quickly.

Do you have a subscription with Rhapsody or Napster?

If so, you need to log in for them to update your account, which will solve it.

If not, did you use your own music from CD's? Did you use Windows Media Player to copy the music to the computer? Did you change the default settings in Windows Media Player?

If so, the default settings for WMP are to "copy protect my music", which will give you this error. You will need to change the RIP Music settings in WMP. Tools>Options> un-check the copy protect my music option. You will then need to delete all the music you previously copied to the device and ti your PC an copy them again with theis new setting in place.

Finally, if you have the "Rhapsody" version, there is pre-loaded music on it that if not deleted, will cause this problem. You can format the device to remove the pre-loaded music, or manually delete it from the System folder.

Please add to the question if that didnt work.

Best of Luck.

You don't need one The below was copyed from an earlier post of mine. But it applies to you. Over a period of time your info can get corrupt from transering music back and forth. To format plug it in to usb. Go to my computer It shows up as a removably disc, usually drive f: Right click on drive f: (or the approriate drive) and click format. Let me know what happens, you will have reload the player, also try bypassing the software you are using to tranfer, by opening up drive f: and clicking and dragging your music into it , or you can copy and paste it into drive f: Good Luck L8R
