Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

Firewire I have an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi which does not have a firewire installed. I would like to purchase a PCMCIA IEEE Firewire laptop cardbus PC card to use with my camcorder but am not sure where to plug this in, as there does not appear to be a port for it. There is a slot about 2 inches wide on the left hand side of the computer, but am not sure if the cardbus would fit there. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: firewire

Hi there, I am fairly sure that PCMCIA card will fit in it.

Have a look at this picture.

The slot you looking for is on the top right of the picture, there is a lil button u press in, it will pop out, push it again and it will eject a sort of blank card, this is make sure nothing accidentally gets into the laptop when a card is not in use.

Hope it helps

I have a acer aspire, ,what kind of pci card do i need so i can have a firewire port ieee 1394

Hi John,

The Acer Aspire 3502WLCi does not has the ability to use any PCI which can be compatible with Firewire IEEE 1394.

The model was designed not to support such type.

I have an Acer 5336 Laptop. I wish to connect a video camera to import and edit my video . There is no 1394 socket to connect a firewire cord too so how can this be done as I am told there is no converter...

YES you can !
There are a variety of 1394 to usb adaptors.
You could take a look here

there are many other sources and methos too

However the stoc specification for your laptop only lists 512 mb ram
that will be a limiting factor in video edits. It is going to be sloow !

I would consider a large increase in ram if you want to do this task on a regular basis

this model (or at least one of the variations) lists a pcmcia slot and if your is one of those the the card option would be my prefered choice.

Another alternative would be to port the video using a desktop computer and then transfer the file to your laptop for playback

I need a firewire card for my Aspire 4315. How do I know which one to get and how do I install it?

You have 2 options, A usb firewire card, or an Express card firewire card.
You have an express card 54 slot (there are 54 and 34 types)
The express card is a good option as most of the card is pushed into your laptop, and therefore is less prone to getting knocked. Here are a couple of examples
Your laptop manual is here if you would like more information

Can u install afire wire card into a compaq presario c700

Yes, but it needs to be a Firewire PCMCIA card. If you do not have a spare PCMCIA slot then you need to remove the other PCMCIA device so you can insert the Firewire PCMCIA card when you need it.

Acer Aspire 5100-3357 lost function of keyboard, touchpad and USB

hello, this has been one of the most reported problem with the 5100 model. i have 2 of them, and they have done the same thing! one i had 2 find and install a new mainboard-400 bucks! not very cost friendly. i did post a solution more than a year ago, but it is a work around that let me use the acer with the dead keyboard,touchpad,usb- you must buy a pcmcia usb card, it goes in the slot on the left side of the acer 5100. then a usb mouse and keyboard will work. (you can get this cardbus adapter cheap, as 400 bucks is 2 much. these pcmcia cardbus card come with 2 or 4 ports. this will let you use the pc, it has been a great solution for me and a lot of others, been in use over a year like this. acer is no help, unless you wish 2 spend a large amount of $. the one with the new board lasted about 8 months before the usb port stopped working for the second time, i then got a second cardbus usb card and have usb again. sorry for your problem.. good luck! do as i say and the acer will work again.( a problem model) just search for pcmcia usb cardbus you will find many 2 choose from- i picked the ones with the NEC chipset, as these are reliable! be well!

No input for i-LINK cable for Sony Camcorder

if your computer does not have an i-Link port (also known as firewire) you would need to purchase a PCMCIA card in order to transfer video to your computer such as this one:

are the connectors on the camera the same exact size, or is one bigger than the other? If they are NOT the same size go with the kind of card I mentioned above (it's a 6-pin firewire cable). If the connectors are the same size you need to get either a 6-4 pin firewire cable, or get a card that has a 4-pin connector
