My Dell Latitude C840 works only with one memory module

My Dell Latitude C840 works only with one memory card. It is not able to recognize second memory module, even when I switch memory modules between 2 slots. For example, my 512MB module works in either slot (so as 256MB module), but when I put them both, it is not able to detect 768MB of RAM. If I put 2 modules of 256MB it is able to detect only one of them. Does anybody have an idea what is going on? I did upgrade BIOS to the latest version, A13...

Dell Lattitude C840 Display NO WORK

If you are getting lines on an external display, then the video card needs to be reseated or it is bad. Since you just had it worked on, I'd take it back and tell them you aren't satisfied (most places will guarantee their work 30 days).

Dell Lattitude C840 Laptop

The 3 LED's (Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) are used by Dell to diagnose no-post issues such as yours. The only error code close to yours is [Num Lock ON, Caps Lock FLASHING, Scroll Lock ON]. This indicates a a memory error. Try reseating the memory modules. If you have 2 memory modules, insert one at a time to determine the faulty module.

Modem driver

Sounds like you've got a memory issue, sometimes when the computer is working with complex memory calculations the module dumps the data on the stack and poof reboot. Try a newer memory module? Also go into bios and see what options you have for memory processing, depending on age of laptop you might be able to disable the ALU in the CPU but it sounds like a memory issue.

ALso try reinstalling direct X, and even possibly windows itself.

Modem driver, consult mfg.
